Everyone hurry up and pick one before Burke gets back on. Shit, he saw. And I'll have you all know he sent me the pic of the Black Ranger and said he wanted that one, and I patronized him and asked if he needed me to do it or if he could change it himself like a big boy and he said he wanted me to do it. lol.

I was just getting ready to grab the Yellow Ranger then I noticed you already did it for me. Burke and I are so incompetent.

I'm still so surprised by how much I liked this. I tried to go into the movie with little to no expectations, but I was still pretty sure I was gonna come out of it hating a lot of things about it, and I had accepted that, but I was so impressed. A sequel will probably be even more lit because they won't have to spend so much time explaining them getting their powers and accepting that they're Power Rangers, but that's the case with the first movie in every superhero franchise. I really liked that Zordon and Rita were the former Red and Green Rangers. There was so much that Power Rangers didn't elaborate on because they dumbed the material down for the audience, but that's always been a popular fan theory, and it was cool to see it explored. I also liked that Zordon wasn't just this wise old sage, and that he was actually kind of a jerk, but came around; along with the Rangers.
And in all of the promotional material, a lot of the Rangers seemed so different, which I previously spoke about, but seeing the movie, I appreciated that I was still able to find pieces of the original characters in the new ones. Like Trini doing yoga on the mountain made me really happy. And that Kimberly and Billy were kind of the most down with the whole being Rangers thing, which I personally took as a nod to them being the longest serving Rangers on the show. And when I started hearing things about the film during production, like Billy being autistic, or that they were making Trini LGBT, I was kinda like, ugh, they're trying so hard to use #representation as a cash-grab, because Marvel for example has been so bad about that lately. It's like, hey, let's make Iceman gay and then never acknowledge it again, and it's cheap and insulting, but they actually used it here and made these things part of who they were, and I was impressed. Billy being autistic actually made a lot of sense, and Trini's and Zack's reveals around the campfire actually made me tear up, lol. I thought Kimberly's whole backstory she was going through wasn't as deep as theirs, but I really loved that scene with her and Jason where he told her that just because she did a bad thing it didn't make her a bad person, and I liked that being the message of the film. And I really loved the full circle moment, where at the beginning of the film she looks in the mirror and hates the person she sees so she cuts her hair off, and then at the end she looks in the mirror and smiles. Like it sounds corny, but it was handled well and it was really sweet. And all five of the Rangers gave really good performances. I thought Billy was going to be sooooo annoying, but I liked him as soon as he came on the screen. Same for Jason and Trini.
And my girl Kim was really kicking ass during that Zord fight with Goldar. Easily the MVP. When she picked Billy's Triceratops Zord up and threw it THROUGH Goldar and onto Rita. 😭 Queen is definitely second-in-command the way she rallied the others and they were finally able to access the Morphin Gird. And I got sooo excited when they hopped in the Zords for the first time and were charging into battle with the original theme playing. I had given up hope that they would use it, so when they did, my wig levitated. And I loved that Rita got bitch slapped to the moon. Baboo and Squatt weren't used here so they can find her when she crash-lands. 😭 But Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank's cameos at the end were the icing on the cake. My biggest thing going into this was that I thought they were totally trying to abandon the TV show and just use the Power Rangers concept to make their own "cooler" and "better" thing, like Transformers or something, but that wasn't the case at all, and they still showed respect to the OGs. Now let's get Lord Zedd and Tommy outta the way in the next movie so the third one can take from A Different Shade of Pink.

My queens, her and Sarah Michelle Gellar, finally embracing the roles that made me idolize them. 😪 I guess they both realized there was no need to run from iconic legacies.

Power Rangers cut a romance between Jason and Kimberly out of the film because they decided it was a disservice to Kimberly's individual character arc. 💗

I watched this today and it blew me away. I really expected a mediocre movie, but it was so much more than that. I won't go into a lot of detail, because my thoughts on the entire thing are almost exactly the same as B's.
One thing that really surprised me was how much I loved Billy, because I expected to hate him. Jay actually offered to let me have the Blue Ranger avi and I turned it down, because I was certain I would hate him.
I went to an early showing so it was full of kids, but this movie wasn't for them at all. Hayley thought it was a kids movie and was making fun of me for dragging her to see it, and was shocked by how many people Rita killed and said that she would have had nightmares if she had watched it as a kid (in reference to the vision of Rita that Zordon puts in the Rangers heads).
Off topic, but there was this one kid on the back row who talked like Gavin from Kids in the Hall, saying weird things like, "Do you know what my favourite numbers are? 15 and 9!"

I still can't get over the fact that there was a bovine masturbation joke in a Power Rangers movie.
