Obviously I ended up finally seeing this tonight and I needed to collect myself on the way home. But this was great. I loved that it didn't take itself too seriously, but it also wasn't a parody of itself either. They knew exactly what they were doing. I loved that Billy was the heart of the team and I'm so pleasantly surprised how easily he won me over, especially since I wasn't feeling his casting. And obviously the representation was great, but I loved that he was autistic. And his friendship with Jason was great too. Jason was definitely my favorite. Not only because of nostalgia and the namesake, but because he was such a great leader. I loved that when he was defending Billy and bitch slapped that kid.
Kimberly was awesome too. Her backstory was great, it gave her a darker edge over everyone else. Which brings me to the next point, the lack of romance. Generally female character's are tied to the romance subplot, but not her. I loved that she was a pure bad bitch. The trifecta of Kimberly, Jason, and Billy was so cute. Zack kind of annoyed me, but he grew on me towards the end. I did like that him and Jason went at it, after that I started to like him a lot more. Okay so going into this, my biggest problem was Becky G. And lowkey, it's still my biggest issue. I didn't hate her, I did go in with a bias of not liking her. She annoyed me up until she finally came out. Speaking of representation, I do like that they went with a queer female character, I feel like it's not something that's found as often. I think I would've loved her if they'd used almost any other actress, but she wasn't awful by any means. I'm just not a fan.
The other great thing about it was their friendship. It was a two hour movie and I liked that the writers understood that. I loved that it was pretty much desperation that got them to truly open up to each other, rather than them just 'click' right off the bat. And again, it comes back to Billy and how he was the only one that they all really liked since most of them couldn't stand each other. Honestly I can't get over Jason and Billy's friendship. It was one of my favorite things about it. I wish they would've put a bit more focus on Trini and Zack. Like I understand Zack's sob story about his mom, that was fine. But Trini's attitude didn't make much sense. "I come from a perfectly family, woe is me." I'm assuming she was worried they wouldn't accept her sexuality and I'm glad the movie didn't stop to have a coming out moment. But it would've been cool to see her and Kimberly, or even her and Zack bond a bit more.
The best part of the movie was the backstory. While I do wish they would've elaborated on what the power coins were, I loved that they explained so much and why Earth was a beacon for potential bad guys to come there way. Also Zordon/Rita being former Rangers was great. I liked that they were able to get that evil Green Ranger arc out of the way without having to bring in Tommy.
JDF's and Amy Jo Johnson's cameo at the end was cute. Though it would've been cool to see Austin St. John. I am going to see this again, like it's probably my favorite movie in a long time.

Though it would've been cool to see Austin St. John. As soon as Jason's dad popped up I was like, ugh, Austin could have just played him because he and that actor from Stranger Things have a similar look anyways.

Wait, wasn't Jason's dad played by Roy from The Office? Who's the Stranger Things actor you mentioned? I agree though, I would have loved for Austin to have played Jason's dad, but at the same time I'm kinda glad they didn't go that way, just because it would have veen gimmicky and distracting.

Wait, wasn't Jason's dad played by Roy from The Office? Who's the Stranger Things actor you mentioned? Oh, when he popped up my friend leaned over and whispered Stranger Things to me, so I just assumed he was the guy who ran the diner because I vaguely remembered him lol.

I convinced my friends to go see this cause we've heard nothing but good things, but we can't go until after spring break. So I gotta wait like 2 weeks.

This broke $100,000,000 today and it still hasn't opened in China yet. Not to mention it's still waiting on Jayzero's coins.

The cast playing Tinder and saying whether they would swipe left or right on past Power Rangers actors.
Naomi's reaction to Jason David Frank. 💀
Poor Johnny being the only other one to be left swiped. 😢

Marvel is truly done when they've got Power Rangers sauteing their wig.
