The Breakfast Club stuff seems a little strange, but I love the grown up tone the movie seems to have, and I'm so glad they haven't gone all the way by making it gritty. I'm sold.

This looks a Divergent/Fantastic Four mess. Someone's wildest Breakfast Club/Power Rangers crossover fan fiction fantasy brought to life.
First of all, the Rangers are all hoodlums lol. And forget all the race swapping. None of that mattered (except in Trini's case, her last name was literally Kwan... wyd) if that actor was the best at playing their respective character... but they're not. That's not Billy. Or Jason. Or Trini. I'm not even asking or expecting them to be exactly like the original character, but they're not even a little bit like those characters. Why did they even give them the same names only to throw every other aspect of their characterization out of the window? And speaking of Jason, Jesus. It's like they wanted Zac Efron for the part, but when he turned them down they hired the closest Great Value knockoff they could find. And why is he in high school with a receding hairline? Nomi is the only one who looks from the teaser like she might bring something to the role that will resonate with the essence of Kimberly's character, so at least there's a chance they still might not fuck up my fave...

Rita doesn't just have the Green Power Coin in this movie, apparently she was the original Green Ranger, and Zordon was the Red. And the alleged plot of the film is that Rita is trying to retrieve the Zeo Crystal for Lord Zedd, so she starts hunting for gold or some shit in order to build Goldar, so that he can get the crystal for her, which is protected by a force field.

I feel like the people who made this have never actually seen a single episode of Power Rangers.

I feel like the people who made this have never actually seen a single episode of Power Rangers. Robert Orci made them all do extensive research on the original series before he left the project for Star Trek. This is all Dean Israelite's fault vision.

I'm optimistic, my biggest issue though is Becky G.

I'm optimistic too. I'm glad they're not just rehashing the original series, because there's no point in this if it's just a shot for shot recreation of the show.
Having said that, changing too much of the source material fucked over the Avatar and Dragon Ball movies.
