Go Go Power Rangers Movie: Lionsgate Plans New Live-Action FilmIt's morphin' time! Lionsgate — the studio behind the Hunger Games, Twilight and Divergent movies — announced it is producing a live-action feature film about the Power Rangers.
Lionsgate and Saban Brands, which owns the rights to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise, plan to "re-envision" the colorful fighters of evil for the silver screen, more than 20 years after the Power Rangers television series debuted.
Still unknown is which villains will appear in the new flick. Will we hear the menacing laugh from Rita Repulsa and see the shenanigans of Goldar, Squatt and Baboo from the early seasons? Or will we be greeted by a newer foe from one of the franchise's spin-offs?
For the uninitiated, the Power Rangers are high school students who are given superpowers to defeat bad guys from destroying Earth. The TV series from 1993 has since catapulted into a international brand fueled by clothes, games, comic books and toys.
In the 1990s, two Power Rangers movies hit the big screen: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1995) and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997).
"We're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own," Haim Saban, producer of the original Power Rangers series, said in a statement.
I have a list of demands. It must feature the original five characters ( Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Chung aren't allowed to play Zack and Trini). Rita must be the first villain ( the sequel can feature Lord Zedd and the Thunderzords). An instrumental of the original theme has to kick in at some point, and someone has to say morphinominal at least once.

To follow B's list of demands, I'd like to add some myself: the 5 main characters should be played by unknown actors, just like the original series. Zordon and Rita can be played by big name actors if they can secure them, I don't have any real suggestions for casting though. Goldar, Finster and the Putty Patrol need to appear, I won't settle for original villains for the movie, no way. I'd also love to see cameos from Austin St. John, Amy Jo Johnson, Walter Emanuel Jones, Jason David Frank, David Yost, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, and Catherine Sutherland, but those aren't really necessary, lol.
If this is a success and it spawns sequels, then I'll be so happy. I really don't care if they reimagine the whole Zordon Era for the big screen, because that would be incredible!

Naya Rivera totally looks like a younger Rita Repulsa so I'm throwing that out there as a long-shot casting prediction.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class) are onboard as the writers, and Roberto Orci (Star Trek reboot) is the executive producer, so at least we've got some talented people working on the movie.

This is actually very exciting news. The writers also co-wrote Thor and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and on top of Star Trek, the other guy executive produced The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Lord, now they just need to not fuck up the casting.

- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Reboot to (Go) Go in 2016
If this summer's TMNT reboot wasn't enough to whet your 90's nostalgia appetite, a second course is just 710 days away: Lionsgate has announced that it will release the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie on July 22, 2016.
Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (Thor) wrote the script based on a story by Robert Orci (Star Trek) that reinvents the tale of ordinary high school kids who possess the power to save the world. The color-coordinated crime fighters first jump-kicked into the national consciousness with a 1993 Fox Kids TV series, and just two years later Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie hit screens.
Though speculation abounds, no director or casting has been announced. The film's release date will put the Rangers up against royalty, in a sense—Guy Ritchie's King Arthur is slated to hit theaters the same day.
710 709 days.

Original Green Ranger Jason David Frank returning for Power Rangers movie
Original Power Rangers star Jason David Frank has revealed that he is poised to return to the role for the planned movie reboot.
Frank played Green Ranger Tommy Oliver in the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
After the series wrapped he continued in the role, evolving to White Ranger, Red Zeo Ranger, Red Turbo Ranger and Black Dino Thunder Ranger across several different Power Rangers shows and movies.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Frank revealed that he had met with studio Lionsgate to discuss playing the character on the big screen.
"I don't know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie," Frank said.
He continued: "They are so tight-lipped on that project, it's ridiculous. I don't even know my involvement into it. They talked to me about being involved, and the fans would love to see me involved.
"We were originally talking about a Green Ranger series, but unfortunately just due to the Lionsgate movie they don't want to overshadow anything or suppress the appetite of the fans, which is a little disappointing. But there's still possibilities of it. I think they are trying to save my appearance for the Lionsgate movie."
I'm hoping he just plays a waiter at Ernie's or a karate instructor at The Angel Grove Youth Center, to be honest.

So if he's gonna be playing an old ass Tommy, we're getting all new characters and not Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack and Billy?

I seriously hope he'll just be in it as a cameo and not as Tommy. If the Rangers are gonna be all new characters then it might as well be another spinoff season instead of a 'reboot' and it just makes a mess of canon. Tbh Jason David Frank doesn't even seem to know what his involvement will be, he probably just thinks he'll be playing Tommy because he thinks he's the most important thing to happen to Power Rangers.
Austin St. John mentioned a while back that he was in talks for something Power Rangers related and I just assumed it was Dino Charge, but now I wonder if it's this movie? If they are bringing back old cast members for cameos I hope we get lots of them. Jason David Frank already has a big ego, he doesn't need to be the only one they invite back, too.

What if they do a whole time travel/alternate dimension thing like Star Trek did. That worked out pretty well, and allowed Leonard Nimoy to be in both movies.
