I thought it was another really good night. Go figure.
Everyone had at least one good performance for me.
You don't like Fantasia? I don't think anyone's ever going to do I Believe nearly as well as she did it, but I think Joshua was miles ahead of any of other contestants who have covered it post-Season 3. A Change Is Gonna Come was probably his best yet, and that's saying a lot.
I loved Elise singing No One. It wasn't as big as some of the stuff she's done, but it didn't need to be, and to be honest I preferred her singing like that. It was my favourite from her. I agree that Let's Get It On wasn't nearly her best, but it was solid enough and she deserves to go through. I don't think she'll make it to next week though.
At least Jessica chose songs that people know this week, which I think was a big part of the problem last week. I think she's guaranteed to make it through to next week purely because people will still be in shock from last time and her fans will be in survivor mode. Fallin' was good, ...Tenderness was better. I loved how at the end she was basically singing from the pit of her stomach, lol. Awesome.
Philip is really cute. I liked both of his performances, but the Usher song was better imo. I've been wanting him to change it up and tone it down a bit for weeks, and he did that. I'm not saying he's been doing the same thing for weeks prior to this, but to people who aren't completely into his style I think it'll have gotten a bit stagnant, and I've fallen into that category. The second was song was so awkward with the dancing, but in a good way. It was a great night for him.
I didn't like Skylar so much singing the Gaga song. It wasn't so much her as it was that I don't think the song suited country, and most of the verses were cut. The second song was way better and I loved it, naturally. It sounded like something Dolly Parton would do to a soul song. The fiddler guy who was behind her both times was hot.
I'm glad Hollie got a bit of credit for once. I think people will have been rooting for her, so it's nice that she had a strong week. I still don't think vocally she's as good as the other girls, but both performances were strong and she really did let loose for once.
I didn't like Colton singing Gaga, but it wasn't a trainwreck for me like it seems to have been for everyone else. It just felt like every other up tempo song he's done so far. I actually thought he did really well with September, lol. I get that it's upbeat and fun, but I thought it worked as a wistful ballad. His voice doesn't do it for me, but props to him for the arrangement. Typical that on the night everyone else hated him I kinda got him for once.
