My list from best to worst:
1. Jessica - Holy crap. She's only 16 and sang Whitney. And I really liked her slowed down version of Sweet Dreams this week. 2. Colton - How do you not like this guy? Tbh they're all great singers this year, but Colton seems like he'd make music I would actually listen to more than anyone else. Unless he does Christian rock. 3. Elise - Her voice always sounded cool to me but she bored me to tears until this week. This week she won me over. 4. Phillip - He's unique. His little ticks while he sings get on my nerves but he's not as bad as that fucking Reed guy. He was annoying. Reminded me of Tom Cruise. 5. Skylar - I hate country but she's fun to watch. Isn't gonna be around much longer tho. Either this week or next I'd say. 6. DeAndre - When he sings low, he's great. He does that Adam Lambert thing where he over uses the high pitch and it gets annoying. He's so 90's it's hilarious. He's a'ight tho. 7. Hollie - She sings great, but she has no personality. 8. Joshua - He annoys me. His singing, his attitude. Plus the judges are always all up in his jock when he ain't really all that. He's had one good week for me so far but other than that, he's the worst of the bunch. Which isn't a bad thing. He's the smallest diamond in the jewelry store. Seriously, this season is great. I usually don't watch past Hollywood week.

Colton is just so ANNOYING. It depresses me that in such a talented season, he'll inevitably win it and release an album full of MOR quasi-Daughtry not-quite-Christian-rock songs. I think it's good that he knows who he is as a performer and singer and stuff, but with him it's all in the package rather than the voice itself. And the package is shit.
I understand why people wouldn't like Joshua, but I just can't get enough of his voice. He seriously is Fantasia in the male form.
I miss Erika though.

Last night wasn't very good. The duets sounded much better than the solo performances.
And I swear these kids are the worst at picking songs. There are so many songs they could've picked. The 80's?? There are hundreds of memorable songs from that decade that these kids would've sounded great singing. The only ones I had ever heard was Elise's song and Flashdance. Seriously, these kids pick the worst songs.
Side note, god damn Gwen Stafani is still fine. Doesn't look a day over 30.

I haven't watched yet, but I've seen the songs. My issue isn't that they're obscure so much as that they've been covered a lot on AI/XF in the past.
I think the problem is that while the producers would like us to think that any song from the eighties is an option, in reality the contestants get a list of cleared songs to choose from.

Just watched, and yeah, it wasn't too great. Some good performances though...basically I liked everything involving Joshua, Jessica and Skylar. Even if Colton didn't sound too great on Islands in the Stream and Joshua's song sucks.
Hollie was weakest, but I didn't think she was that bad. Colton's hair is also better without the skunk bit.
You don't know Wind Beneath My Wings? That's pretty much stuck in my head thanks to The Simpsons. I remember Krusty the Clown and Bette Midler singing it on a Krusty Special, lol.

Yeah after watching the results show I actually did know a few of the songs, I just didn't remember what they sang. I'm still watching the results and I don't want to ruin it for you so I'll wait for you to comment before I do.

Surprised Hollie didn't leave, but DeAndre isn't really a loss. Good singer who did nothing for me. Apparently we can expect a Broadway theme soon. The Wanted are shit by the way.

I love that they keep making JLo tell her favorites they're going home. It's so messed up and she looks pissed everytime.
At least DeAndre sang the one song I actually enjoyed him singing all year as his last performance. That guy should stick to reggae. He sounds so much better low. (which, ironically, is the opposite of what people who listen to reggae are)
But yeah, no big loss. He wasn't going to win anyway. They're saving their save (<- That sounds weird) for either Colton, Jessica, Elise, Philip, or Joshua. If that ends up as the top 5 they just won't use it this year.

I fell asleep last night but just finished watching my recording.
My ranking for last night: 1. Elise 2. Phillip 3. Jessica 4. Colton 5. Joshua 6. Hollie 7. Skyler
Elise is just amazing to me now, and Phillip is really good. They sing great together.
Jessica was just as good as she always is. She's without a doubt the best singer, but now that it's nothing but good singers, she doesn't stand out as much. She needs to start doing something different. Maybe faster songs. She was great in the Kelly Clarkson song.
Colton I didn't really like last night, but it might have just been cause I was tired. I thought he was great when I just watched it. He carried Skylar in the duet.
Joshua was great in his solo but he went down my list on the group song. He seemed like he was trying to go up and above Jessica the whole time, which kept making her go up to try and get the harmony back, and it threw off the whole song. Poor Hollie was struggling to keep up and just got lost in the whole thing. Her Pink song was a'ight.
Skylar I think is going home tonight. She's just not in the same league as the others anymore. All she can sing is country where everyone else has kinda showed they can take any genre and make it their own. That said, that does give her the country vote so Hollie might be in trouble on that front.
Hollie and Skylar are for sure the bottom 2. I don't know who can be in the bottom 3 with them cause the other 5 are great. Probably Josh or Elise because Colton and Philip have the girl vote which is 75% of the audience, even though Elise definitely shouldn't be. If Jessica is than America is brain dead. (So she's probably going home)

Just watched it. Everyone was good enough, but for the most part it stayed in the same place for me. Not the most exciting show of the season.
Skylar was the exception for me, because to me that was easily one of her best performances, if not her best. Her voice sat perfectly in the song. I worry because she went first and she was in a similar position a few weeks back when she sang early on and landed in the bottom three, but at the same time she really is peaking at the right point. I think she stands a good chance of cracking top three if she carries on like this. I don't agree with your point that she's not as versatile as the others because I feel for the most part everyone is sticking to what they do best, and Skylar did really well in adapting Whitney Houston to her voice, even though that couldn't be further from her country zone.
I liked the start of Colton's song, and he's a good pianist. I wish he wouldn't insist on making every song so dramatic and epic...I love theatrics, but I don't think his voice is nearly distinct enough or strong enough to pull it off week after week after week.
I agree with what you said about Jessica. Incredibly talented, and technically she was spot on, but it didn't stand out. I think it was really risky choosing a song that nobody knows.
Joshua to me has the best voice in the competition, but I wasn't keen on the song choice. It's not because it was up-tempo, because when he sang I Wish for Stevie night he killed it. The song just didn't really suit him. And I hated the staging...I get what they were doing, but the camera switching to that dancing woman every two seconds just really threw me off. It felt a bit uncomfortable.
I feel bad for Hollie because she's clearly trying her hardest, but she is lacking the presence and experience that everyone else seems to have. That said, this was her best performance yet. Her vocal was really strong and she's not just belting out a series of massive notes any more, which she seemed to be doing at the start of the live shows. I'm just not sure if she's good enough yet, improvement or no improvement. Oh, and I loved how the Scouse accent was really strong when she was saying 'Perfect' in the VT, lol. It's so jarring to hear a Liverpool accent on an American TV show.
I'm getting a bit bored of Philip. He's so cute and seems like the nicest guy, and he's great at what he does, but it's not exactly my thing, and I'm guessing lots of people will feel the same way. J-Lo was right when she was saying that he really needs to change it up if he wants to last until the end. It's fallen stagnant.
Elise's voice is insane. I'm not sure if it was perfect or anything, but all the little nuances she adds to her performances just makes her seem so much more skilled and experienced than everyone else. She won't win it, but she's in the position the likes of Melinda Doolittle and Crystal Bowersox have been in previously where everything she does is seriously impressive (last week's mess aside). Unfortunately this is a much stronger year than S6 or S9, so she won't make second or third place.
As for the duets, I thought Philip and Elise were the strongest by a mile. Colton and Skylar have no chemistry together, and the trio just fell apart. They all had individual moments that were strong, but they looked completely lost when they had to sing in harmony. I think it was a bad idea to give them Kelly Clarkson songs, because she's the best thing this show has produced and every time a contestant sings one of her songs they come out of it looking weaker than they are.
At this point I think the top three will be a combination of Jessica/Joshua/Skylar and Philip/Colton. One of the latter two is bound to make it, but I doubt the other will. Skylar could break into it if either Joshua or Jessica fall in a shock elimination.
I'm going to say the bottom three this week will be Jessica (shocker), Hollie and either Elise or Skylar. I think the save will be used on anyone other than poor Hollie.

I hate the save. Moments like this would be so much more fun without it.

If Jessica is than America is brain dead. (So she's probably going home) I'm so glad she was saved. C'mon, do you really think she deserved to go home before Hollie?

Well no, but shock eliminations are so fun and dramatic, and the save stops that from happening. Unless the judges use it prematurely like they did last year.
This doesn't apply if my favourite gets eliminated obviously.

While we're on the subject of last night..... And that Pink song was one of the worst performances I've ever seen on this show. Group or otherwise. Terrible. All of them were off key (Except maybe Elise) and the dancing was terrible.

1. Phillip - I didn't really like the Usher song. His little ticks tend to annoy me sometimes and he did it alot that song. He rocked the heck out of that second song tho.
2. Skylar - She did great both songs... for her. She's the only one that sang both of her songs good.
3. Elise - I love Elise now. Her voice is amazing. I want her to win. Let's get it on wasn't her best tho.
4. Jessica - She was saved and that's all she did? If she doesn't go home tomorrow, and that's a big if, she needs to stop the ballads until the finale. She's become boring and forgettable.
5. Joshua - The screaming. Good god the screaming. He's everything I hated about Fantasia. His 2nd song was really good tho.
6. Hollie - Good.. but forgettable. She seems so scared when she's singing. She's going home either this week or next.
7. Colton - The fuck was that? Terrible. Just terrible. And extremely annoying. Who could take that awesome Earth, Wind, and Fire song and turn it into a boring, whiny, suckfest of a song. Good lord. He's not going home, nor does he deserve to, but Jesus, Colton. Awful. Don't even get me started on Gaga...
Overall, I only liked 3 performances all night. Phillip's 2nd, Skylar's 2nd, and Elise's 1st. Bad show overall imo.
