The screenwriting duo behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes have signed on to create the script for Jurassic Park IV.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will be penning the latest tale of prehistoric peril, suggesting that there have been a few shake ups since we last heard anything.

Spielberg previously announced that Mark Protosevich, who wrote the script for I Am Legend, would provide the screenplay for the title. It's not yet clear if this means the story he had in mind will change, though it's comforting to know that Jaffa and Silver have written about super-intelligent, human-hunting animals on their last job.

No release window has been revealed, but the original Jurassic Park is due to be re-released in the US after having the 3D treatment on July 19th 2013, with UK screenings to follow.

Hasbro Returns to Jurassic Park
Toymaker to release new merchandise in anticipation of Jurassic Park IV.

It's been a long time since Hasbro's done Jurassic Park toys. But as Dr. Ian Malcolm would say, "Life, uh, finds a way."

According to Variety, Universal has struck a new deal with the toy company to create new Jurassic Park merchandise.

"Hasbro's innovative approach to all of its products has made the company an ideal partner as Jurassic Park has evolved over the last 20 years," said Universal Partnerships and Licensing president Stephanie Sperber. "Hasbro has been with us every step of the way, and we look forward to continuing our relationship and adding another blockbuster to this iconic series."

Through this new licensing agreement, Hasbro will have the rights to develop action figures, plush dolls, playsets, vehicles, role play, games, KRE-O branded building sets and novelty items. The toymaker is eager to return to the property, especially now that the studio is releasing Jurassic Park in 3D this April, and Jurassic Park IV on June 13, 2014.

"As a global branded play leader we look forward to continuing our relationship with Universal in this next exciting chapter by bringing innovative entertainment experiences including toys and games to Jurassic Park fans around the world," said Hasbro's chief marketing officer John Frascotti.

Expect to see Hasbro's first lineup of products beginning summer 2014.

Jurassic Park Dinosaur Noises Were Created With Animal Sex Sounds

With the recent re-release of Jurassic Park in 3D (read our review) plenty of fans are waxing nostalgic about the beloved dinosaur franchise. There have been a wealth of behind-the-scenes featuretts detailing how the effects team created the revolutionary look of the dinosaurs using a combination of CGI and practical effects.

Here's one we didn't know, though: The Dinosaur sound effects were created with animal sex sounds. Yep, NY Mag reports that recordings of animals either in the midst of, or gearing up for, a "romantic moment" were used. Velociraptor = turtle love.

"It's somewhat embarrassing, but when the raptors bark at each other to communicate, it's a tortoise having sex," Jurassic Park sound designer Gary Rydstrom told the outlet.

But wait, there's more. The sound of the flock of Gallimimus that nearly stampedes Dr. Grant, Tim, and Lex were made using a recording of a horse in heat trying to get the attention of a stud.T-Rex eating a human? Dolphin in heat.

There were some G-rated sounds as well. A baby elephant was used for the T-Rex's roar, for example. Pretty fascinating stuff, technically speaking. As to how this effects your image of a beloved childhood favorite? We leave that to each individual to decide for themselves...

Jurassic World to Hit Theaters June 12, 2015

Hold on to your butts, because Universal Pictures has announced 'Jurassic World,' aka Jurassic Park 4, will hit theaters in 3D on Friday, June 12, 2015.

Steven Spielberg will return to produce the feature helmed by Colin Trevorrow, based on a script by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Trevorrow is perhaps best known for his 2012 comedy Safety Not Guaranteed.

Although plot details have yet to be revealed, Trevorrow has said in interviews that he hopes to make a "kick-ass Jurassic Park movie."

“It’s important to make a movie for the fans, but I also have to remember that there’s a lot of people who couldn’t care less, and need for me to make a solid case for why the hell there’s a Jurassic Park IV in the first place."

Trevorrow has also revealed a new dinosaur will be making an appearance in Jurassic World, describing it only as "pretty badass."

The cast is actually starting to shape up quite nicely. I don't need a returning cast member I guess. Still hoping for Grant, Malcolm, Ellie, Lex or Tim tho. Or at the very least Hammond so he can finally be swallowed whole by a T-Rex before Richard Attenborough dies. The man's 90. We don't have much time left.

The director sat down for an interview with IGN:

IGN: Writing and directing a Jurassic Park movie is a pretty big step-up from Safety Not Guaranteed in terms of scope and scale. What’s been the biggest challenge thus far?

Colin Trevorrow: Getting the script right was the tough part. There are a hundred different ways to tell any story, finding the right one takes persistence. Jurassic Park movies don’t fit into a specific genre. They’re sci-fi adventures that also have to be funny, emotional and scary as hell. That takes a lot of construction, but it can’t feel designed. The characters have to be authentic, the situations real. Derek [Connolly, co-writer on the film] and I started with a blank page and worked all the way through the summer. The process got easier when we decided not to rush to meet that 2014 release date. There just wasn’t enough time. Steven [Spielberg] had the foresight to make that call, the studio was supportive, and I couldn’t be more grateful.


IGN: Can you tell us anything about how the film will look?

Trevorrow: We’re shooting 35mm and 65mm film. We’re also using an aspect ratio that hasn’t been seen theatrically in a very long time. The movie will be presented in 2 to 1. It’s basically a middle ground between 2.35 and 1.85. It allows us enough height to fit humans and dinosaurs into a single frame, without giving up that sense of scope. It’s very close to the ratio of the digital IMAX screens, so it will look great in large format. I think other filmmakers will want to give it a try when they see how it looks. It’s very comfortable.


IGN: Will any of the characters from the original films be returning for this one?

Trevorrow: I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story.


IGN: What can you tell us about Chris Pratt’s character in the movie?

Trevorrow: He’s a classic hero in a very modern context. He’s the guy who will get you through the jungle alive – but like Malcolm, Grant and Sattler, he’s an expert in a scientific field that’s connected to our story. The character allows us to explore some new ideas about our relationship with these animals, without losing the humor and sense of adventure. He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled. Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other.


IGN: How will your Jurassic movie differ to the previous films?

Trevorrow: I’m not on a mission to separate this film from the ones that came before. That will happen naturally – I have different instincts. But, like a lot of people my age, I grew up on Amblin movies. They’re a part of who I am as a filmmaker, and arguably as a person. This film will have a lot of new ideas in it, but I think the spirit will be familiar. It will have an old soul.

I feel safe with this guy at the helm. He seems more worried about just making a good movie than a Jurassic Park sequel. My hopes are high. Also, there's the official confirmation that Chris Pratt (didn't even know he was up for a role) and Bryce Dallas Howard will star. Cool that BD Wong is returning.
