Unfortunately for Velvet this one is true, although it's unfair to compare her to the AAA women. They've had the experience of travelling all the way around the world whilst she's been stuck with a company who don't have much faith in her. |

In fairness though, plenty of women in both TNA and WWE have received less screen time (and even indie experience) than Velvet Sky and are still much more competent than her. I just don't think she's in any way a natural athlete.

I don't think questioning Velvet's "competence" is the best way to word it. Her technique may not be flawless, but she obviously knows how to wrestle. As unpolished as some find her ring work to be, her matches aren't unraveling because she doesn't know what she's doing out there. She does, and she's had years of experience to learn her craft including ring psychology, working the crowd, handling the mic, etc. areas in which she's golden in and make up for her sloppy technique. And really, not even trying to go there with you, but who are you to question someone's sloppiness when your favorite wrestler of all time is Melina? jw

It's more a case of being ultra-slow and unbelievable than it is a case of her being sloppy. I won't deny that she has her strengths (most of which I don't think are related to the actual wrestling side of things), but I just don't think she'll ever be a good wrestler. And when I say Velvet's style isn't believable, it's not in the same way as certain other wrestlers who may substitute flash for impact and realism, because at least they bring excitement to the table.
And I don't want to delve too deeply into the Melina thing, because I think they're miles apart in terms of athleticism and ability. I will say that with regards to Melina's 'sloppiness', it's far more a case of her reaching too far and making things too complex than anything else. Naturally when you're trying to deliver a Last Call on the likes of Alicia Fox and Maryse there are going to be issues. Simply put, if Melina limited herself to what Velvet does then there wouldn't be an issue.

But some of her worst matches have been against Jillian and Mickie James, so I fail to see your point. Oh, right. You didn't have one.
It's all a matter of opinion I suppose. As far as ring work, mic abilities and character, I'd say they're pretty much the female equivalents of their respective companies.
Actually, I'd give character to Velvet. She doesn't suck as a face.

What bad match with Mickie? They had a borderline bad match at one point in early 2007, but they've proven time and time again that they can work terrific matches together, and besides, that was half a decade ago. I never said that Melina wasn't flawed back then; the point is that she's improved leaps and bounds and is one of the best workers in either company at this point.
The Jillian matches were about ten seconds long and I don't think two botched moves reflect Melina's in-ring ability, given that she's proven that she can have great matches with Jillian when they're actually allowed to do so.
Basically, when Velvet has a match that even comes close in quality to a good Melina one then I'll jump off a cliff or something.
If Melina sucked as a face I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have been the most popular woman on the roster. Just saying.

I don't want to argue about Melina though, because it goes without saying that Velvet can't compare to her and I don't even get why she was brought up in the first place tbh.

I like arguing about Melina when I can actually sink my teeth into the subject. When the point of argument is "Who's better: Melina or Velvet Sky?", I think it's best to leave it alone. I wish I hadn't have risen to the bait in the first place to be honest; comments like that are better left isolated.  |
