What if nobody died? It might sound like a great idea but TVLine reveals that the Torchwood team discovers the reality of immortality is a lot darker than the ideal.

Torchwood said:

“Not a single person on Earth dies, the old stay old. It’s great news for some people, but globally it’s an instant population boom. Earth relies on people dying. Suddenly you’re affecting everyone on the planet. That’s where the Torchwood team comes in.”

People not dying might be big news for the gang at Torchwood, but this season brings even bigger news for the fans. The fourth season of the sci-fi hit makes its U.S. debut on Starz when the season premiere arrives on Friday, July 8th.

It will be easy to notice the difference in the new show right away because the team will be leaving Cardiff for an extended stopover in Los Angeles, and Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and Gwen (Eve Myles) have a few new faces are joining the team.

Mekhi Phifer (Lie to Me, ER) is taking the third lead spot as CIA agent Rex Matheson, Alexa Havins (All My Children, Grey’s Anatomy) will be adding another CIA face to the cast, and Lauren Ambrose has signed on as a PR expert.

Just so people don’t start to think that everyone from the U.S. is a good guy who works for the CIA, Bill Pullman (Lake Placid, Independence Day) is hopping on-board as a murderer who managed to avoid prison.

I'm probably the only person who cares about this but I decided to share anyway.

Torchwood is basically a team of police exclusive to crimes involving aliens and the paranormal, it's pretty much the closest you'll ever get to a British Buffy/Angel. The creator was obviously inspired by it and you'll notice at some points during the first two seasons. I won't post spoilers but once a week or something I'll post full episodes if I can be bothered if anyone is interested in watching.

Season 1 Episode 1 - "Everything Changes"













This one is pretty much the set up of the series, it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Episode 2 will definitely be right up B and Burke's street.

Because at the end of the day it's still a spin-off from Doctor Who. Although now that the head writer/creator of Torchwood no longer works on Doctor Who, there should be less Who references. And a British Buffy doesn't mean it's on the same level as the original Buffy.

Gwen was annoying. Like a British Rachel Berry, only not funny. I liked John Barrowman's character though. He inspired a few giggles. I'm not sure if its something I would seek out to watch, but maybe I'd stop if I saw it on BBC in the future.

P.S. Any idea who waxes Barrowman's eyebrows?

It picks up as the season goes on, seasons two and three are so much better. And I hate Gwen, there's times when there's just too much of her. She's slightly less annoying towards the end of season 2.

I’m going to watch that episode tomorrow probably. Even if it’s generally a great show though, I usually have a hard time getting into dramas. I love me some sitcoms like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development etc but non-comedy wise Buffy is like the only thing I’ve ever regularly watched.
