I thought we could use a thread to talk about anything going on with the major pop artists. Britney, Katy, Gaga, Xtina, Mariah, Bieber, etc. Especially since there's always tea to spill. Speaking of which. 'Hear Me Roar!' Katy Perry Winning US Chart Battle Against Lady GagaIt was always going to be a big chart battle - Katy Perry and Lady Gaga going head-to-head with their eagerly-awaited new singles. But it would seem that Katy Perry has won the first round after her single Roar sold twice as many as Lady Gaga's Applause in their first week of release.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Roar shifted 557,000 copies in the US last week, making it her biggest weekly tally of her career so far. It has also ended a nine-week non-consecutive run at the top of Billboard's Digital Songs chart by Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines featuring TI and Pharrell Williams. Lady Gaga's Applause though, only sold 218,000 copies, just 39% of the opeing tally of Perry's single, and making it debut at number three. Roar is from Perry's upcoming album Prism, which will come out in the UK on October 21, while Applause's parent album Artpop will be released on November 11.
But Gaga may fair better with her single in the UK - Roar has yet to be released commercially but Applause was rush-released last week after it was leaked online and debuted at number five on the Official UK Singles Chart. She took to her Twitter page on Monday to bemoan the leak and wrote: "Due to hackers an abundance of low/high quality leaks... We issue this pop music emergency... Monsters spread the word." Roar was also leaked but it didn't stop Perry's official US release, although Gaga reached out to her on Twitter and wrote: "Wanna grab some shovels and f*** up some hackers?"

I always said Katy was better.
Britney's first single from her next album is out September 17 (I remember because it's the same date GTA V comes out). I hope it's better than that crappy Smurfs song she has out.

I’ve got to remain impartial here though and admit that while I’m still Team Katy through and through, I don’t really like her new song all that much.

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga trying to sabotage each other? (probably not but it makes for a better story)Katy Perry changes 'Roar' UK release to clash with Lady Gaga iTunes gigWill the release distract from Gaga's iTunes gig?The huge stateside success of Katy Perry's 'Roar' has persuaded the star to bring the UK release of the track forward to this weekend.
The track will be available to buy in the UK from Sunday, 1 September - the same day Lady Gaga performs at London's iTunes Festival. It was originally set for release on 8 September.
The duo were previously pitted against each other when Lady Gaga 'rush-released' her single 'Applause' in America to coincide with Perry's US release date. Perry sold over 550,000 copies of 'Roar' in its first week of release, making it one of the most successful singles of her career - while Gaga's sales were much less impressive.
Katy Perry will perform at this year's iTunes festival, closing the month long event on 30 September. Her pop rival opens the run of gigs.See the teaser for Perry's 'Roar' video below.

If you missed the details of Lady Gaga and Perez Hilton's batshit Twitter feud, here's a recap: Lady Gaga, a Bennington thesis who also sings, accused her former bestie, celebrity gossip gremlin Perez Hilton, of stalking her at her New York City apartment, prompting Hilton to claim that Gaga is a Very Bad Person who has pathologically sabotaged the careers of her contemporaries (namely: Christina Aguilera, Natalia Kills, Kerli, Katy Perry, Porcelain Black and also someone named Truth Tea, with whom I'm not familiar — is that a man or a woman?).
Now, Hilton has fired some additional shots by amplifying a new movement (viva la revolución!) called Justice For Bionic (see the graphic above), encouraging true lovers of music to hit retailers on November 11 not to purchase Gaga's ARTPOP but instead, to buy Christina Aguilera's much-derided 2010 LP Bionic. #JusticeForBionic is currently picking up steam on Twitter, although at press time, it has yet to overtake other trending topics such as "#pistthaditakipleselim."
For me, this elevates the diva warfare of Gaga's "Applause" vs. Katy Perry's "Roar" to dazzling new heights; there's something wonderfully out-of-touch about introducing a three-year-old Christina Aguilera album into the mix.
See you all on 11/11.

- Breaking Down The Britney Countdown: What Does It All Mean? The Britney Countdown is objectively the most Important Pop Event of 2013 — apart from confirmation that Britney's in the studio with Naughty Boy, William Orbit and Sia, that is.
But following the excitement of this initial discovery, important discoveries now lie in the subtle details of this countdown.
Let's break it down while it's still hot as ice.
1.) The background.
It sort of looks like a curtain, suggesting that the Vegasney tour dates may finally be announced. Perhaps it's an homage to The Circus Tour. Or, the curtain is a metaphor. Perhaps the curtain exists as the barrier between the common people and the Holy Spearit — one which we may never cross because of our general unworthiness.
2.) "Britney Spears."
It's Britney, bitch.
3.) The infinity sign.
Some might say it's an "8" sideways, representing Album 8 or 8RITNEY or Blackout 2.0: It Gets Urbaner And Also More Spearitual And A Little More Personal (Raw). Some might also say it's an infinity sign, representing Britney's continued legacy as a Living Legend and an exceptional earner. Some might also say it is a decorative mark.
4.) "All Eyes On Me."
Unless Britney's going Metaney again (see "Hit me one more time, it's so amazing" in Femme Fatale's "Inside Out," for example), this is not the name of the new single or album — it's a line from her iconic 2008 single, "Circus." Or, perhaps it's the title of her long awaited autobiography, Their Eyes Were Watching Godney.
5.) The line.
The line represents the line that Britney has crossed time and time again with her risk-taking, often scandalizing performances. "Shame on me," The Britney Countdown seems to suggest, "to need release." It also represents the chart and radio records that she so often effortlessly breaks. It's also a subtle reference to "Out From Under": "Even when I cross the line, it's like a lie I tell a thousand times..."
6.) The sign-up.
It looks like cigarette. It's already on record that the smell of cigarettes and cologne is trouble for Britney. Is Britney in trouble? Or is Britney about to cause some trouble? Is Britney releasing a song called "Cigarette"? Or is Britney releasing a tobacco-scented men's fragrance named Nicotine Fantasy?
7.) The countdown date.
28 27 days. 23 hours. Some seconds. When dealing with Our Very Own Pop Princess-now-Queen of Pop, every second counts. And what is that countdown leading up to? September 17, 2013, 9:30 AM EST. What else happened on September 17?
• In 1626, Sabbatai Zevi, a Montenegrin rabbi who claimed to be the Jewish Messiah, died. He was also a Kabbalist. COINCIDENCE? • In 1630, the city of Boston was founded. COINCIDENCE? • In 1983, Vanessa Williams became the first black Miss America. Miss America is a pageant. COINCIDENCE? • In 1982, Wade Robson was born. COINCIDENCE? • And in 2013, Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto V. AS SUSPECTED, NOT A COINCIDENCE AT ALL.
Let us pray.

I want Britney as a playable character in GTA V.
Actually, I still want a whole game, Def Jam/Celebrity Deathmatch style, where pop stars fight against each other. Imagine Rihanna KOing Beyonce with elbows to the head. Or Katy Perry getting disqualified against Lady Gaga for throwing a low blow, then kicking the refs ass afterwards.

Lana Del Rey Scores Her First Billboard Top 10 Hit With "Summertime Sadness"We did it, fellow Del Reys of Light.
Our beloved Bugatti Veyron enthusiast Lana Del Rey's haunting Born To Die tune "Summertime Sadness" is finally seeing the sun, climbing into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 this week at #9.
After its original release last year, "Summertime Sadness" was sent to radio in early July and began climbing steadily over the past few weeks, breaking into the Top 20 in mid-August. (We're all just pretending it has nothing to do with that Cedric Gervais remix, capisce?) The song is now resting comfortably alongside Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
I predicted "Summertime Sadness" would climb the charts as a sleeper hit back in early July, which means I'm officially a Lana Del Prophet and should be showered in gifts and worshipped accordingly. (I like my boys bad and my Diet Mtn New on ice, thank you.)
So happy you got your first Top 10 smash, Lana Del Christ! Thank you for blessing us with your Pepsi Cola in the land of Gods & Monsters.
