Here's a site that might remind you of some: www.scaredtoplay.com/games/sortby/scary_descSilent Hill 4 is probably the creepiest game I've played. I basically had to pause before every step I took because I was always expecting some kind of ghost or demon to jump out at me.

I forgot that Until Dawn was actually pretty horrifying until I figured everything out. Exploring the sanatorium and the mines. The scariest game I've ever played was Fatal Frame, though. Hell, I didn't even play it. My sister's boyfriend at the time randomly found a bunch of PlayStation 2 games on the side of the road and picked them up for me and it was the only one that sounded like something I would like. I put it in and immediately pulled it back out, lol. A few days later I told my best friend about it, and she loves horror and being scared too so she was like, let's play it. We put it in and she explored for a hot second until we saw the first ghost and we both jumped up to turn the PS2 off, lol. I'm sure in retrospect it's probably not even scary, but it was so atmospheric and creepy to us when we were in middle school. And this was like, at the height of The Ring.

Also while I think they were more like jump scares, I used to get way invested in the Resident Evil games when I would play them. Code Veronica specifically, I just got so into the story and I was determined to get to the bottom of it and survive. Not even just survive, but to make sure I took Umbrella and the other antagonists down, lol. ...Though I guess that courage did go away rather quickly when a giant moth landed on my back and laid an egg under Claire's skin.

The fact that you found it on the side of the road sounds like the creepiest part to me. Like it was some demonic thing that was planted there and you were destined to come across it. Forget The Ring, this sounds like a horror movie storyline. You find this mysterious video game and all of a sudden weird shit starts happening when you play it.
