Chyna’s shoot interview with Vince Russo has been posted at Pyroandballyhoo.com in the VIP section of the website. The interview started with Vince asking Chyna to tell everyone what she has been up to in the past three years.
Moving to Japan and starting a new life:
Chyna said that she was not able to get work in the United States in Hollywood or in wrestling and she felt like she was being pressured by negative media. She says that instead of being degraded and allowing people to make money off of her she decided to pay off her rent and book a ticket to Japan and start over.
Chyna said that she wanted to be a success story from the wrestling business and she would like to think that WWE would like to see success stories from people that leave wrestling. Russo said that she already is a success story and said that the stuff Triple H was “bullsh**” and “propoganda.” He said that nobody has come close to stepping in her footsteps.
Her relationship with Triple H:
She talked about being with Hunter and having the one day in between shows during the week and Hunter calling Russo telling him what he didn’t like the shows. She said he would act “rude” and would complain about everything including his relationship with Shawn Michaels. She said that Hunter would say that he was “picking Shawn’s brain” and lived, slept, and breathed wrestling and she didn’t want to meddle in the boys business. She said her job was to keep her mouth shut and do her own thing.
Russo wondered why it’s so hard for people in the business to put so many people over. She said that she feels uncomfortable with gossip sites and sites like TMZ and she was taught that when you see someone you should compliment them. She said that she feels that you can build people in a respectful way.
Russo talks about the years when she was dating Hunter. He said he thought Triple H was a great guy. Chyna says she thinks he is a great guy. Russo said that he did a lot for Hunter early on in his career but in 2002 when Vince McMahon wanted to bring Russo back he knows Hunter worked against him. Russo said that at one time he used to see Hunter taking care of Chyna and would open doors for her but he doesn’t know how things broke down between Hunter and Chyna. Chyna said that everyone, including Shane, his wife Marissa, and the rest of the McMahon’s, knew that Hunter was seeing Stephanie except for her. Chyna said that she and Hunter had a huge house in New Hampshire and they were planning to get married at the same time Hunter was secretly dating Stephanie McMahon.
Finding out that Triple H was dating Stephanie McMahon:
Chyna talked about Hunter going to have a meeting with Vince and the crew after a show at the arena and Chyna would wait for Hunter to come and get her and they would eventually leave. She said one particular night she was waiting and waiting and a security guard comes over and tells her that there’s nobody in the building. She said she went out and got a taxi to a hotel and booked a flight to the next city. She said she got to her room and realized that Hunter took the jet and left without her. She checked his voicemail and heard voice messages from Stephanie McMahon. Chyna said, “You don’t leave someone in a concrete building by themselves and you don’t punch girls and you don’t treat them like that and ruin their entire career and their life and never speak another word to them.”
The next day, with the voicemail evidence, Chyna still had to go to work. She thinks it was Hunter’s plan to get her to leave the relationship first so he can then date Stephanie. She said she and Hunter got into a heated argument and told him that she knew something was going on.
She said the following:
“So I think Hunter’s plan was to get me to leave the relationship first and then that way he can start dating Stephanie and like everything would be cool. So I would ask Hunter time and time again, I figured it was better just to address the problem and ask him honestly and I would have to believe his answer, so we got into a heated argument, we were not getting along, I told him ‘I know something’s going on. Don’t tell me something’s not going on.’ He swiped my hand, I swiped his hand, he hit me. I went back like Jerry Springer and then I was like OK that’s the deal breaker for me, the relationship is now over, so now I have to leave. After that, I know that he was crying and I know that he felt bad that he hit me, and my first initial reaction was to get up, and like I don’t know, I was just in shock and it felt like a Jerry Springer moment, it was very surreal, and I just couldn’t believe that he hit me. But he knows that like I don’t stand for physical violence, albeit we’ll get to that after with Sean [Waltman], so I knew at that point I had to leave, but I needed some sort of closure so when he was gone I started looking all over the house, and I looked into his, long story short, I looked into his briefcase and I found a love letter from Stephanie that had [been] dated a year back, so the whole time they were doing the storyline basically they were together.”
Chyna said she called Vince McMahon and told him assuming that McMahon didn’t know. She said that Vince told her, “I hope you don’t lose your job over this.” She said that at the next Raw show she saw everyone parting like the red sea and realized that everybody knew except for her. She said she knows that you can’t stop love but now she had to deal with moving forward and keeping her job and deling with the emotional side but then things went haywire after that. She said that she would spend most of her time in the bathroom. She said she never talked to Hunter again after that except for the time when they came to pick up Sean Waltman for rehab. She said Stephanie McMahon came in the bathroom to talk. She said as soon as they go into this room she “attacks” her verbally saying things like “well, I love Hunter.” She said the thing that sticks out in her mind is Stephanie verbally attacking her. Chyna said she was in shock and couldn’t believe it. Vince comes in and says “well if you think you can’t control yourself.” She said Vince told Chyna that she’s such a professional and she can rise above. It was Vince, Stephanie, and Chyna in the room without Hunter.
Vince McMahon’s reaction and promise to keep her in WWE, how Billy Gunn helped her:
She said that Vince said that if she acts like a professional then he will renew her contract and said he loves her so much because she’s so understanding. She said Vince told her not to worry about everything because it will all be ok and they will send her a contract. She said one day she said one day she was told by fax that she was no longer needed even though she was still under contract with the company. She said that through all of this Kip (Billy Gunn) was there for her and in a way he sacrificed his career. She said it was impossible for her to do anything while she was not being used but under contract and after WWE she couldn’t use the name “Chyna” and the reality show she was on would have to pay a lot of money if they wanted to use that name on the show. She said that they were always about to give her a push but they wouldn’t because he was helping her. She said there was no romantic relationship with Kip but there were nights where she’d be crying in a hotel room and he would sit in a chair in the corner listening to her sob.
Post-WWE:
Russo said that after all she’s been through with losing so much that it would make sense if WWE would do the right thing for her and let he use her name and perhaps help give recommendations to help her post-WWE but that’s not what they did. She said she knew that she was a sitting duck because wrestling fans love their wrestling and she remembers when Sable left the company she couldn’t talk about certain things. Chyna said she tried to move on and not mention WWE but WWE would tell “The Surreal Life” that they couldn’t use the name Chyna or they’d call another show and say that if they used Chyna then they couldn’t have The Rock on their show.
Russo asked why she thinks WWE continued doing these things after she left the company especially when she was not going out of her way to say negative things about the company. She says she doesn’t know but there is no justification. She said that she did try to reach out to them many times [for help when she had substance abuse issues] but no one would answer calls or letters and it wasn’t a secret what was going on during that time in her life. She says she takes offense to that because “if that’s their wellness program then I got news for ya.” She said that her managers tried to pitch shows and she went on reality shows just to get on them to get her name out there as ridiculous as some of that stuff was but she wasn’t making headway because she couldn’t battle the goliath named WWE. Then she figured she would fight for her name. She said she looked like a train wreck at the time.
Drugs and alcohol:
She said that she was self medicating with alcohol and in the Hollywood world she did some recreational drugs a few times and it was never really her thing but her biggest substance abuse problem, she says, was Sean Waltman. She said that the few times she tried cocaine in Hollywood she thought that she didn’t have a problem but in hindsight it was a stupid to think that way. She said she is scared of drugs. Russo said he was worried for her. She said she would go to doctors asking for help because she was having a mental breakdown but doctors thought she was prescription shopping so she coped by drinking. Russo said he saw her on Howard Stern’s show and was scared to death. She said she didn’t book herself to go on Howard Stern’s show and she would be told the day before show. She said the was under the influence of alcohol and just didn’t care during that time.
Hitting rock bottom:
She talked about the sex tape and around Christmas
she reached out to her sister. She said it was a broken relationship and her sister was cold to her. She said she “sliced and diced” herself and drank a whole bottle of alcohol and ended up in a psych ward and it was a reality slap and it scared her. She talked about being sad because she was at that point. She said that she was physically really weak and something snapped mentally and she knew doctors weren’t helping because they thought she wanted drugs. She said she was at a desperate point and doesn’t know how she made it through that but at that point she knew she had to change something.
The relationship with Sean Waltman and turning her life around afterwards:
She said she doesn’t know how to explain it and it was the most difficult thing that she dealt with in her entire life. She said he was abusive and on “every drug but the kitchen sink” and protected. She said she used the last remains of her money to get herself in protective custody and eventually move out of the country. She said she’s gone through therapy and being away from phone calls, violence, and media scrutiny has helped her. She said she prays and goes to church every Sunday and that’s helped. If she would have not escaped from her situation she would be dead. “Either he was gonna kill me or I was gonna kill myself.”
She talked about doing her third movie for Vivid and being painted all green and doing interviews for the previous movies. She said it was hard to do and was physically exhausted and then she would “pick up the bottle” and say “i’m gonna die.” That’s when she cut everyone off. That’s when she says she packed her suitcase and left. During that time she was living in a studio apartment in Venice Beach and she had to deal with people knocking on her door to ask her questions about wrestling or whatever she was doing.
Triple H’s comments from the Steve Austin podcast:
“Hopefully his kid is getting a good education and knows that 1) not everything on the internet is absolutely true and 2) maybe his eight year old son should not be on the internet Googling stuff that his father controls…it’s just stupid. It’s hurtful because it’s gonna make people go on Google. I don’t even Google myself. I’m traumatized by Google myself. It’s just stupid and it’s cowardly.” She said “we know the truth. do you want your son to listen to this interview about the affair, the mother, how you treated me and what you said or didn’t say afterwards and what happened? Really? That’s what you’re gonna say?” She said that afterwards [on Austin’s podcast] he totally diverted by talking about Bruno Sammartino and Warrior. Chyna said “i’m even saying that I know you can’t stop love….God bless you but why do you have to steamroll over another human being?” She says it kills her to talk about these things when she sees the good things that WWE does but it also kills her because she believes they do it intentionally to cover up the bad stuff that they do.
How she gets her fix now since she’s always been an entertainer:
She said she doesn’t and it’s a problem for her and she struggles with it and people might know who she is in Japan but they don’t care and it’s hard for her [to adjust]. Russo asked what needs to be done to pick up the success story on the other side and fulfill the final chapter. She said that she would need to make a good living and would need good work to keep her focused and occupied without all of the hoopla. Otherwise she’ll just continue to teach her students in Japan. He asked her if she could choose what she wants then what would it be. She says she doesn’t see herself ever going back to WWE or TNA but does see herself maybe doing acting stuff or some type of show. She feels that if she shows her face on YouTube and does a few interviews then maybe someone will see her and a project might become available.
Russo said that this interview is not about being negative or attacking Hunter or Stephanie or WWE in general. Chyna agreed. Russo said that it’s not right how they treated her so they had to be called out on it. She said that to this day if someone hears Hunter say “Google her” then it affects her career and that’s why she’s in Japan because of comments like that. She said it’s a stupid comment and “you’re still putting a sword in my back.”
She ended the interview by talking about teaching and promising Russo that she would not disappear on him. He said he is working on things for her in the United States to help her out. Russo asked about who she stays in contact with. She said that she doesn’t keep in contact with anyone in the business but she came in contact with her parents after 20+ years and said it’s great to be able to tell her mother that she loves her. She said she’s been out on a few dates in Japan but culturally it’s like going out and having a good time so it’s not romantic dates. He told her to promise to stay in touch on a weekly basis.Man, there is no way this can have a good ending. Either HHH is a terrible person for hitting a woman or Chyna is a terrible person for lying about something like that.
