First it was Jimmy Savile and Rolf Harris who were found out to have done a lot of horrible things (and somehow got away with it for 20+ years), now Bill Cosby has a bunch of allegations against him. These seemed like the most harmless, nicest celebrities around too which makes it all the more creepier.
If a celebrity you admired was found guilty of something terrible would you still be able to appreciate their older work or would you be completely done with all of it? I know this kind of thing has been debated with Chris Benoit a lot over the years. Although I never sought out his work even when he was alive so that ones not really a dilemma for me.
In these particular cases I'd never want to watch or hear anything to do with them ever again if they were guilty. Especially since these guys worked and were popular with children so much.
There are other cases though when I'm not quite as strong as that and I'm not sure whether I should feel guilty about it or now. For instance, I admit that I can still watch OJ Simpson's stuff in Naked Gun and laugh despite being 99% sure he's a murderer. A lot of great songs have been made by awful people and if they came on I'd probably still listen to them. I've watched Roman Polanski movies despite what he's done. There have even been times when I've thought to myself, "how the hell could you even work with this piece of shit?", when popular actors and actresses are in his movies...and it dawns on me that if I'm choosing to still watch them then who the hell am I to judge them?
I could probably have given this thread a better, more relevant title. I hardly ever make serious threads though so it's probably fitting that even this one has a stupid name.
