Kenneth Byrd shot three home invaders on Monday night after they forced their way into his home and attempted to rape his 19-year-old granddaughter. Byrd was also struck by gunfire from the suspects in his home on Yedda Road in Lumberton, North Carolina.
When the Byrd family answered a knock at the door around 10 p.m. three men in ski masks forced their way in. The criminals held the grandparents at gunpoint and directed them to open a safe. The thugs also attempted to rape the Byrd’s 19-year-old granddaughter but gramps wasn’t having that.
Byrd managed to grab a handgun of his own and put holes in all three intruders. The suspects returned fire, striking the grandfather multiple times before fleeing in Byrd’s gold Cadillac. One of the suspects died from grandpa’s gunshots.
The wounded criminals then abandoned their partner on their way to McLeod Hospital in Dillon where they were treated for their injuries. If Brandon Stephens, 28, and Jamar Hawkins, 17, survive, they face a string of felony charges possibly including capital murder for the death of 20-year-old Jamie Faison.
Sherri Bridgeman, a friend of the Byrd family wrote on her Facebook page that grandfather Kenneth was listed in critical condition. Legend!
