Silent Hill games are usually more challenging than the average game. 1 and 4 I remember being the most difficult. 1 because of the puzzles and 4 because of all the creepy demon things that keep coming out of the wall and killing you while you've already got your hands full trying to fight off some other monster.
Tomb Raider 3 was way harder than the first two for me. And I gave up on Underworld without even completing it but I think that was more to do with me not having the motivation to finish rather than it being super difficult.
The new Twisted Metal had some pretty difficult levels too.
