I kinda wanna see this. I'm inclined to think it'll be good because it's Joss Whedon, and Chris Hemsworth is relevant to my interests after The Cabin in the Woods. Having said that, I haven't seen any of the movies preceding this. Will I still like it?

I didn't like it much, like I said in the other thread, but it wasn't a case of dying of boredom or anything. I'd just would've preferred a bit more drama and character development.
Most people seem to have loved it though. It's doing amazingly in reviews and stuff I think. Honestly, I don't know if watching the other movies will really affect it that much, although my dad says watching Thor would make it better.

Based on the amount of positive reviews coming out of it, I'd say you're almost certain to love it. My non-comic book loving friends really liked it, so you should.
I would recommend that you watched the build up movies, because this is basically a sequel to them all. You'll probably need the background information from them.
And T, can you really comment on character development if you haven't seen the build up? I've heard Black Widow's character has development a lot since Iron Man 2.

I've seen the Iron Mans and Captain America.
That's the point though. They go into it expecting that people have seen the other movies and care enough about the characters, but it's not presented as a sequel. So basically I was sitting there watching a bunch of people I had no interest in explode things for two and a half hours.

I saw it tonight. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the biggest fan of comic book movies but it was alright.
It felt like it would never end though. What is it with movies like this always lasting for like two and a half hours now? You’re not making the fucking Godfather. 90 minutes will do just fine, please. At least it didn't drag as bad as the Transformers sequels did though.

Yay, you're the first person I've seen other than myself who didn't really get it.
Everyone else seems to think it was the most amazing film ever and I just don't get it.

My local cinema is showing The Avengers 16 times this week, and not a single screening is the 2D version.
I'm boycotting my cinema for good unless they provide 2D alternatives for all the 3D movies.

Don't have to wait until the blu-ray release afterall, because I'm going to see this on Wednesday.

I loved every single minute of this movie. Tarry, go in with the highest expectations possible, you won't be disappointed. I can't think of a single negative. 90 minutes wouldn't have been long enough. I could've sat there all night. Hulk was awesome. Finally, Hulk was awesome.
Joss Whedon is not a mortal. He is a movie making god. This and Cabin in the Woods is probably the best time I've had at the movies. If not ever, than in a really really long time.
