America's Recording Academy officials changed the eligibility criteria for the Grammy's Best New Artist category so that Le Gaga could be included in the pedigreed pool of nominees. The rules state artists nominated in the Best New Artist category must have been nominated for a single the previous year. Since Gaga was "unsuccessful" in obtaining a nomination last year, she was left out of the Best New Artist pool this year... that is until her little monsters got wind of the situation. The public outcry of tweens around the U.S. of A persuaded the Academy to make some much needed amendments. What with the speed that music is created and trends emerge these days, in addition to the already ephemeral nature of pop music, an artist could appear and disappear over night, forget about over the course of two years.
