Comingsoon.net reports that the sequel to 2005's Frank Miller's Sin City is finally ready to move toward production.
Robert Rodriguez announced today at Comic-Con, "Frank has written a script for Sin City 2. It could shoot as early as later this year."
The film will adapt the Sin City story "A Dame to Kill For," plus two more stories set in the Sin City universe. The title for one of the stories was revealed as "The Long Bad Night."
It is currently unknown who will return for the sequel, although "A Dame to Kill For" features both Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Nancy (Jessica Alba).

The long wait is over, Sin City fans. The sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ adaptation of acclaimed comic book creator Frank Miller’s dark noir tales is going into production under the official title of A Dame to Kill For.
The news was confirmed by Dimension Films, which sent out an official press release that you can read below.
“Filmmakers Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, along with producer Alexander Rodnyansky, have announced that production will commence on the highly anticipated sequel to 2005’s Sin City, entitled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.
“The first question I am always asked is “When will you make another Sin City? ,” said Rodriquez. “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”
Sin City creator, screenwriter and co-director Frank Miller said, “The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”
The script and details of the film’s story have been kept tightly under wraps. Casting will begin next week, with many of the original cast expected to return. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was developed by Frank Miller based upon his graphic novel, with a screenplay by Frank Miller and Academy Award-winner William Monahan (The Departed). The film is expected to begin production this summer at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.
The original Sin City was brought to the screen by Rodriguez and Miller and released by Dimension in 2005, and proved to be a landmark step forward in filmmaking, breaking ground with immersive green screen to create its iconic stylish look. The first film, released on April 1, 2005, grossed over $160 million (US) worldwide and is a consistently strong home video and television performer.”
The “A Dame to Kill For” graphic novel is a tale of love, betrayal and murder that features the characters Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the Sin City movie), Gail (who was played by Rosario Dawson), Miho (Devon Aoki), Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan), Nancy (Jessica Alba) and Marv (Mickey Rourke). In the Sin City chronology it is the prequel to “The Big Fat Kill” (which was Owen’s portion of the Sin City movie); it also shares connective tissue with “The Hard Goodbye” (Mickey Rourke’s portion of the Sin City movie). One would expect Owen and Rourke to return; then again, in the comic, Dwight starts out having a different face than the post-surgery version we saw in the first movie – so in fact it would be possible to have both Owen and another actor sharing the role in the sequel film.
There’s an obvious advantage to telling this particular tale, in that would allow for many of the original cast to return for the sequel, while also injecting some new blood (no pun). Over the years, big name actresses – Selma Hayek, Angelina Jolie – have been rumored for the part of “Ava,” the femme fatale who is the titular “Dame to Kill For,” but no confirmations yet on who will land the role. Frank Miller has reportedly worked on new and connecting stories for the sequel, which would suggest it has somewhat of the same piecemeal structure as its predecessor.
All in all, this is welcome (and overdue) news for Sin City fans, but with the cast and creators all coming back, it should be winner.
Michelle Williams and Mel Gibson (lol, he’s still alive?) are rumoured to be among the additions to the cast. I hope Bruce Willis/Hartigan is back also.

They started filming this last week. Jamie King just signed back on to play Wendy, Goldie's twin sister. And Jamie Chung has replaced Devon Aoki as Miho. They traded up.

Cute. I think Jamie Chung is in the new Quentin Tarantino movie too, if I'm not mistaken. Gettin' that acclaim.

I'm just noticing a slight resemblance between Josh Brolin and Andy Cohen. They could be brothers.

I'm expecting this to be quite a downgrade from the original. It looks okay though so I'll give it a chance.

- Sin City 2 is Dead on ArrivalAccording to early estimates, The Weinstein Co.'s "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" is practically dead on arrival.
Friday's projections showed the sequel appeared heading for an opening weekend in the $10 million range at 2,894 sites — far below recent estimates of a $15 million launch — with a meager first-day gross of $3.6 million including a sparse $475,000 from Thursday night shows.
Despite TWC's noir-drenched marketing campaign and the star power of Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Eva Green, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis, "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" is likely headed for fifth or sixth place. It currently trails Chloë Grace Moretz's weeper "If I Stay," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," the launch of low-budget sports drama "When the Game Stood Tall" and possibly the second weekend of "Let's Be Cops."

The reviews haven't been great either.
I think they just waited too long. They should have tried to do the sequel within a year or two of the first one coming out.
I'll still see this eventually though.
