Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to The Terminator franchise in a new installment directed by Justin Lin (Fast Five).
This package deal says that the actor and director will make the film for whatever studio picks it up. No writer has been hired.
The current international box office success of Fast Five has helped Lin's case a great deal. The news comes after a long and complex road of rights issues with the series. The rights will revert back to James Cameron in 2018.
Ugh. He’s too old for this shit.

Two and a half years later and there's finally some news on this. Paging Sarah Connor: Emilia Clarke, Brie Larson to Test for 'Terminator' Reboot
The Terminator reboot is zeroing in on its actors.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Alan Taylor is prepping to begin testing actors and actresses for the sci-fi feature project, which is being made by Paramount, Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions.
The testing will begin next next week, with Taylor seeing Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Brie Larson ("21 Jump Street") as well as another actress vying for the role of young Sarah Connor. Margot Robbie’s (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) name has also surfaced in connection with the role.
Connor was played by Linda Hamilton in the classic movies directed by James Cameron. The character is the future mother of John Connor, who grows up to be the leader of the human resistance in the war between humanity and cyborgs.
Names of those in contention began surfacing earlier this week.
Taylor will also be searching for his young Kyle Reese, the man who will father John. Those actor tests will occur at a later date but insiders say Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy") is on the short list although sources say reports of Boyd Holbrook ("Behind the Candelabra") are off the mark.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back as a Terminator robot in a time-spanning story that sees him tasked to protect Sarah Connor as she grows up.
But John Connor is also back and sources say Taylor's wish list starts with Tom Hardy (Christopher Nolan's memorable Bane in The Dark Knight Rises), although at this stage not even a meeting has taken place.
The latest Terminator will be the fifth installment of the storied movie series, which began in 1984 as an indie distributed by Orion. Schwarzenegger starred in all but the last one, 2009’s Terminator Salvation.
Annapurna acquired the rights to the franchise in May 2011, then teamed up with Skydance and Paramount in June, with plans to make a trilogy. The movie has a July 1, 2015 release date.
Taylor cut his teeth directing big-budget HBO shows such as Thrones and The Sopranos before making his feature debut with Thor: The Dark World, which is generating solid reviews and is expected to take no prisoners at this weekend’s box office. I was hoping the rumours from a year or so ago about The Rock playing an evil Terminator would turn out to be true.

Emilia Clarke got the role. And the guy with the fivehead from Zero Dark Thirty is John Connor.
I don't understand why Sarah is so much younger than John. Is John the one that goes back in time? Cause, I mean, the last guy that went back in time to save Sarah...
That's some Back to the Future shit

The last Terminator movie with Christian Bale was so boring. It made 3 look like a masterpiece. This one has to be better.
I'm hoping it's going to focus on Sarah Connor more than John.

Arnold's shotgun has gotten smaller in his old age, I see.

This looks like a greatest hits version of a Terminator movie.
I’ve long since accepted that nothing will ever come close to the first two but I’m still kinda looking forward to this.

I forgot that was even John. I thought John was the guy on the left at first.
