World Wrestling Entertainment released Dave Finlay yesterday. He had been solely working as a producer since retiring from in-ring competition last year.
WWE Champion The Miz was booked to interrupt the national anthem during a live event in Champaign, Illinois on Friday. A number of representatives for the National Guard were in attendance and they were not pleased with the anthem being used to garner heel heat.
Once key WWE officials were informed of the incident, a decision was made to terminate his contract since he was the show's top producer.
His release from the organization comes as a shock to numerous employees. Finlay is well liked and many are hoping that it is a situation where he could be brought back in the future.
That's ridiculous. He gets sacked for trying to advance storylines but Michael Cole is still there after his gay slurs on Twitter? There goes Finlay's induction into the Hall of Fame, everyone knows if you leave on bad terms you never go in (apart from Bret).

That is so dumb. WWE is following an embarrassing pattern of realizing the stupid shit they pull after its said and done (Cena's gay jokes, Miz's interruption of the National Anthem, etc.) and trying to play clean up crew. You made a good point about Cole. What he did was way more offensive, I guess Finlay's more expendable though. Still, draw a line already. You can have Cole ragging on King's dead relatives but Miz interrupting the National Anthem is deemed too offensive. So wishy washy.

Lol, this is so dumb. They really couldn’t just give him a warning rather than release him then bring him back 6 months later (which is what they’ll do)? This is basically a replay of that whole Daniel Bryan choking incident. They probably aren’t even really mad at him. They just have to be seen to be “taking action.”

Let's be honest...cheap heat is all Miz has anyway. It's pretty much his entire act. If he's not insulting the hometown crowd's local sports team, screeching "really?" over and over or now interrupting the national anthem then he'd probably be about as over as Primo Colon.

You're still mad because you really thought he was The Rock that night.

You're still mad because you really thought he was The Rock that night. Actually, when I watched that segment he was about halfway down the ramp before I finally clicked that it wasn't really The Rock. That bald cap really worked.

Earlier this year, former WWE superstar Finaly, who was working as an agent/producer behind the scenes at the time, was fired after booking an angle where The Miz interrupted the National Anthem at a live WWE event - which caused an uproar among the National Guard servicemen who were in attendance.
Finaly recently spoke to the UK's Fighting Spirit magazine and had this to say about the situation:
"I was given a lot of leeway and a lot of power in WWE, and that comes with a lot of responsibility. I made a call that caused a storm and I paid for it. They play the American national anthem over here before every event. We had Miz going out first and, because it was just before WrestleMania, we were trying to get as much heat on him as possible. So my spur-of-the-moment call, as I sat right by the technician, was to tell him to hit Miz's music while they were half-way through the national anthem. Of course, people were up in arms about it, but it was a good reaction as a heel. But there were National Guard people in the building that took exception to it, and I understand that fully. It wasn't intended to insult anybody in that way — it was just part of an entertaining show. That's what we do, we entertain — it's about cheers and boos."
Great to see that he stands by his decision.
I remember seeing RAW live in 2004, Lillian Garcia got everyone to stand up and sing God Save the Queen. Half way through, La Resistance interrupted and sang the Candian national anthem instead. William Regal and Tajiri then came out and interrupted them. Was anyone mad? I doubt it. I definitely loved it.
