This is the first I'm hearing about this being a TV show. And they're trying to get SMG.

NBC’s Cruel Intentions reboot, which was just greenlighted to pilot, picks up 15 years after the cult 1999 movie, which starred Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. It follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil — the character played in the film by Gellar — as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her step-brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon).
With Gellar’s character featured in the followup series, it is probably not surprising that the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star would be on the producers’ wish list. And now I’ve learned that Gellar has been approached about reprising her role in the pilot. It is unclear yet whether it would happen or not; she is reading the script.
NBC’s Cruel Intentions comes from the film’s writer-director Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz as well as Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, the duo behind the The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions, whose staging at Los Angeles’ Rockwell Table & Stage in May generated buzz and drew Kumble, Witherspoon, Gellar and co-star Selma Blair who all attended. Sony Pictures TV, whose sibling Columbia Pictures produced the movie with Moritz’s Original Film, is producing the TV adaptation alongside Original Film and AMBI.
Gellar is being approached for pilots every season but has only agreed to do two since the end of Buffy — CBS’ comedy The Crazy Ones and drama Ringer, both of which went to series.
With series adaptations of popular movies on the rise, the networks and studios have been looking to keep some continuity with the features by having an original star on the show. Bradley Cooper is reprising his role from the Limitless film on the CBS series in occasional guest appearances. CBS’ proposed Beverly Hills Cop followup series had Eddie Murphy attached to recur. And the Training Day CBS pilot has been in discussions with Ethan Hawke about potentially reprising his Oscar-nominated role.
