Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley is a shell of himself -- looking shockingly frail today as he leaned on his fiancee for support ... days after admitting he nearly died from years of hardcore drinking. Deryck had to be held up by Jocelyn Aguilar (left) and another woman during a walk in Los Angeles. On Friday, Deryck revealed he'd been laid up in a hospital bed for a month, and confessed on his blog... "the reason i got so sick is from all the hard boozing i’ve been doing over the years. it finally caught up to me." Deryck says his liver and kidneys collapsed, and docs have told him if he has one drink he will die. The damage is obvious when you remember how Deryck looked in his heyday with Avril Lavigne. Oh dear. That first pic. I thought he was cute when he was dating Paris Hilton. I blame Avril.

I feel bad for putting this in here now, but I just got back from seeing him play. I think I last saw them about 8 or 9 years ago and I was worried that due to his health issues that seeing him play again would taint that memory, but I was wrong. He cleaned up pretty nicely, but there are no words to describe how amazing live he was. Like I hurt everywhere from moshing, jumping, and screaming out the lyrics. It was such a great show and it really made me realize how much I miss going to concerts. I think once CDs kind of died it, I fell out of touch with going to shows (or following bands in general). But I'm so glad I went tonight, it was completely worth it and I got to meet him. He was a super sweet guy, signed my ticket and took a picture with me. It was just such a wonderful experience and to live in that nostalgia for a couple of hours was amazing.
And before I go on too long about it, it was such a small venue, like it was literally a bar with a couple hundred of us shoved in there. But the vibe in the room was awesome. Like I know people hate mosh pits, but the guys in there tonight were fucking awesome, you'd fall down, they'd pick you back up, pat you on the back, and push you into the fray. The sense of unity in there gave me chills and if I never see Sum 41/Deryck Whibley ever again, I'm 100 percent okay with this being the last memory of seeing them live.
