That was a shit ton to get through to reply.
I love the show. It's so different from anything else on television. I don't have to use past tense yet. It suffered from bad advertising, but then again how do you advertise it? It's a show where you need to watch multiple episodes to get the humor. The original ads for it looked awful. It made it seem like it was just going to be about a romance between Jeff and Britta. Lame. It's so bizarre and the Doctor Who references in the last several episodes were hilarious.

I've never watched it. I only know that the woman who plays Helen in Drake & Josh is in it. And I've always pictured her as Astro's boss at the cinema that he works (worked?) at.

I love Community fans so much. I hate that this show has been on life support all year. It's at the point where I want NBC to cancel it so they can just follow Conan to TBS. Firing the entire writing staff including the creator of the show is just ridiculous. As if moving it from Thursdays wasn't bad enough. Fuck NBC.

I'm still not over NBC canceling My Name is Earl, they could have had the decency to give them an hour long special to resolve the season 4 cliffhanger. So even though I've never really watched Community, I'm with you on this one.
Fuck NBC.

I finally started watching this. I'm about quarter of the way through season one. Thoughts so far: - Pierce is hilarious (I had no idea Chevy Chase was in this)
- Annie is annoying
- Britta is hot
- It's weird seeing Joel McHale in something that's not The Soup
- It took me 2 or 3 episodes to really get into it (which is a good sign because my two all-time favourite shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm & Arrested Development, were the same) but I can already tell I like it

So, I love that the media is putting headlines everywhere saying "Chevy Chase's Racist Outburst on Set of Community" when in reality, he was protesting the fact that his character was becoming more and more racist on the show, and said next week they'll probably want him to call Troy and Shirley the N-word. But he said the magic word, so he's labeled a racist, even tho he was protesting racism. Gotta love the media. Edit: Also, tired to NBC playing these games. They're just holding onto Community so the hype dies down and no other network will want to pick them up. Too bad for them Joel promotes the show every week on the Soup, which is where most of it's fanbase came from. #Face

I think the fact that you thought better than to use the word in a direct quote, despite the excuse of the context, proves that deep down you know it wasn't cute.

I think that fact that both actors in question have come out saying they didn't care he said it, proves the media is blowing it out of proportion.

Chevy Chase Leaving NBC’s ‘Community’
Pierce Hawthorne is dropping out of Greendale Community College. After a tumultuous three-and-a-half year relationship, Chevy Chase and the producers of NBC’s cult comedy Community are parting ways by mutual agreement. Chase’s departure from the show is effective immediately. The bulk of Community‘s 13-episode fourth-season order have been filmed. Chase won’t appear in the 1 or 2 episodes that have not been shot yet.
The news of Chase’s exit from the Sony TV-produced Community hardly comes as a surprise. His return to the comedy series for Season 4 was somewhat surprising as he hinted multiple times last spring that he might leave. He has been vocal about his displeasure with the Community gig, telling The Huffington Post UK in an interview this fall, “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want … The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”
Then there was Chase’s public feud with show’s creator/former showrunner Dan Harmon last year, which escalated into a profanity-laced message Chase left on Harmon’s voice mail. (Harmon left the series after the end of last season.) There also have been on-set outbursts that have become a distraction for the rest of the cast and crew. They included a tirade last month, in which Chase used the N-Word. The rant was reportedly prompted by lines of dialogue he found offensive. According to people close to the actor, Chase had been increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce, who is a bigot, and had felt that the Pierce had run his course.
Chase’s departure likely won’t have as big of an impact on Community as Harmon’s exit because Pierce is a supporting character in an ensemble led by Joel NcHale that has a number of standouts. The show recently got a February 7 Season 4 premiere date and is set to return to its regular Thursday 8 PM time slot. With a February start, Community is unlikely to go beyond the 13 ordered episodes this season. Chase will be in most of them, so his departure will be felt more acutely if the series gets a fifth season renewal. Just cancel the damn show already

I never noticed this, and I've seen this episode a few times. This is why this show is brilliant: For the first time in TV history (that I can remember, at least), a major character was part of a storyline that took place entirely in the background of other scenes. While Jeff pondered his mortality, Pierce tried to hold on to his Mom after her death, and Annie and Britta argued over feminine wiles, Abed's "not much" involved bringing a baby into the world.
Watch this helpful compilation that strings all the scenes together, and you'll see Abed having a passionate conversation with a very pregnant woman, getting into a fight with the jealous father of the unborn baby, helping his new pregnant friend in the cafeteria when she goes into labor, and the kicker, delivering a baby in the back of a truck just behind Shirley's head.
It's a testament to how great Community is that most of us didn't notice—and to me, just another reason that the show is one of the most innovative comedies on TV.
