Holy shit, that main event was awesome in person. In all honesty, I can't even be mad about the outcome (
give it a week...) because the match was so great. Even when they went out the first time, I was surprised they weren't main eventing, but I was like, okay, awright, they did their thing. But I was pleasantly surprised when the match was rescheduled for later because I
knew they were gonna main event then, but they really pulled out all the stops. Charlotte's kip up on the outside was bad ass, and there were so many great spots like the Natural Selection off the steel steps, and the moonsault off of the commentary table (
it'd be even better if Sasha actually caught Charlotte one of these days), and y'all know I'm no fan of Sasha Banks, but that shot of her when she pulled the kendo stick out from underneath the ring was ICONIC. This was definitely one of their best matches, so I'm glad I got to witness it in person. The only thing was just, not even as a stan, but I was so sure Charlotte was going to win. They kept making such a big deal out of this being the feud-ender, so I was like, surely Charlotte is gonna retain and move on to Bayley. But how can this be the end of the feud when now they gotta have Charlotte's rematch?
And I honestly didn't think Ric Flair coming out after the match made it onto TV because it was so random and stupid.
My brother-in-law hasn't followed wrestling in a while though since before the Women's Revolution. He even thought they were still being called Divas. But he was so blown away by that match and so impressed with Charlotte. He thought it was the best match of the night, and that Charlotte is one of the best wrestlers on the roster PERIOD, and he couldn't get over how far the women have come compared to when he last watched.
Dana Brooke was so fucking funny at ringside. I don't know how much of it you could see but she was doing the Flair strut around the ring, and then had to be helped to the back by a referee after being thrown against the steel steps.
And I even got to see Tony Nese.
Whenever I go to a live show I always make it a point to keep my eyes on the wrestlers themselves, but there were times I just had to see that ass blown up on the jumbotron. My brother-in-law was also impressed by him, and thinks he'll get a push because Vince and Triple H are suckers for guys with physiques like that, and I was like, true. So Burke, when it happens, I want you to remember that you once again have Triple H to blame.
I was pissed they weren't selling any Charlotte shirts, though. I wanted one to wear to the gym.
When I went for a snack I saw a woman wearing the shirt I wanted and I asked her if she got it there because I couldn't find one, and she said she ordered it online, but that she wasn't really a wrestling fan, but that Charlotte is her son's nurse's sister, so she and her family were there to support and I was like oh, damn, okay, lol. I mean it makes sense because it's her hometown, but I wasn't anticipating six degrees of separation. And how random for the one stranger I struck up a conversation with to have ties to her.
Oh my God, though. Speaking of the people there. There was this slob in a Bullet Club shirt sitting near me and he was like a wrestling fan meme come to life. First of all, he was cramming popcorn into his mouth all night and during the tag team title match, and when The Club interrupted New Day he was like, "Thank you!" Then he was chanting New Day Sucks while everyone else was chanting New Day Rocks, and he was complaining to his friend about how long they'd been champions and kept getting so pissed when Xavier Woods was kicking out of all the near falls. Then when New Day retained he was suddenly quiet and that was honestly funnier than if he'd had a meltdown. I tried to sneak a pic for you guys, but there were too many people around.
Honestly though, this was definitely one of the best shows I've attended, even if just for that main event alone, but I actually found myself entertained throughout the entire thing. And our seats were upper level, but we had a great view looking right down into the ring and the stage. I'll post pics tomorrow, but right now I'm ready to get in bed, lol.
