I just kind of feel like Miley Cyrus is like a modern day Vanilla Ice.

Won't someone think of the children foam fingers? Miley Cyrus Criticized By Inventor of Foam Finger For VMAs PerformanceFor "degrading an honorable icon"... The avalanche of people piling on Miley Cyrus for her VMAs performance is reaching critical mass. In addition to the Teddy Bear Fund, the Parents' Television Council, Cyndi Lauper, Hayley Williams of Paramore and a host of people inside and outside of the music industry, now the inventor of the foam finger has called Cyrus out for her performance with Robin Thicke at the awards show.
Fox Sports caught up with Steve Chmelar and asked him about Cyrus' performance, which involved her rubbing a specially-designed foam "#1" style finger against her crotch during the performance. Chmelar, who invented the finger when he was sixteen in 1971 as a way to support his high school basketball team, wasn't that impressed.
"For people that like that kind of entertainment, I'm sure that it met their needs," Chmelar said. "If I had choice between Julie Andrews singing 'The Sound Of Music' and Miley Cyrus doing 'Can't Stop', I'd go the Julie Andrews route, but everyone has their choice and their decision."
He added, "I would say that it certainly misrepresented its intent to encourage team support. She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it. Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive."
