I don't often talk about ~serious stuff, but this story has been on my mind since I read about it last week and I can't get over how wrong it is. If you haven't heard, Trayvon Martin was walking through a neighborhood to a relatives home when he was deemed suspicious by the neighborhood watch leader, George Zimmerman, who called the police. The police told Zimmerman not to pursue Trayvon but he did anyways and ultimately shot and killed him. When the police arrived, they found that all Trayvon had on him was a can of Arizona Tea and a bag of skittles for his little brother, but Zimmerman is pleading self defense and hasn't been prosecuted yet, and the local police are actually defending his actions, citing that he's a college graduate. I know that petitions aren't always heard, but the family is looking for 1,000,000 signatures for the case to be investigated, and since this has been weighing on me I wanted to pass it along for anyone who might want to sign as well. www.change.org/petitions/prosecute-the-killer-of-our-son-17-year-old-trayvon-martin

Signed.
The kid doesn't even look 17 years old. I would've guessed like 12-14. What a horrible story.
And because that Zimmerman guy's a college graduate and head of the neighborhood watch, he's above the law? The fact that the victim's family are having to go to this trouble just to open an investigation is a joke.

There's absolutely no reason that he shouldn't be charged. The self-defense law in Florida, which is pretty lenient doesn't hold up in this case. I don't understand how he can claim self-defense when the dipshit was supposedly "patrolling." It's so ridiculous that people still see "young, black, and male" and automatically feel threatened. If it were a white female it wouldn't have happened. It's disgusting.

It took a month longer than it should have but finally: Prosecutors are set to reverse a decision not to charge a man who shot dead an unarmed black teenager in a case that has caused outrage in the US.
George Zimmerman, 28, will be charged over the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin tonight, a source close to Florida's prosecutors told the AFP news agency.
It confirmed earlier reports made by the Washington Post which cited a law enforcement official close to the investigation.
State prosecutor Angela Corey has announced she will hold a news conference in Jacksonville at 11pm UK time.
Mr Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watch volunteer, shot the teenager in a gated community in Florida's city of Sanford on February 26.
He told police he shot him because he looked "suspicious".
Lawyers for Trayvon's family say the unarmed teenager was shot in cold blood.
They claim Trayvon was walking to a convenience store to buy sweets. He was only found to have been carrying a bag of Skittles.
Mr Zimmerman, who police have described as white but whose family say he is Hispanic, said acted in self-defence and has so far not been charged with any crime.
Soon after the shooting, Mr Zimmerman went into hiding.
The killing has sparked national uproar in the US amid suspicions it was racially motivated.
Sky's US correspondent Dominic Waghorn said the development was a "surprise".
"This is interesting because Mr Zimmerman's legal team had a hiatus yesterday," he said.
"The legal team said they had lost contact with Mr Zimmerman and were therefore not going to represent him any further."
He added: "Mr Zimmerman was not arrested after the shooting because Florida police said that under Florida law they could not arrest him because he was citing claims of self-defence.
"However, it seems as though the state prosecutor does not agree with that and believes Mr Zimmerman should be charged."
Florida's "stand your ground" law allows the use of deadly force if someone believes they are in danger of imminent death or great bodily harm.
Campaigners have been calling for the law to be overturned.

Trayvon Martin's mom says she thinks his killing was an 'accident'
Trayvon Martin’s mother said Thursday that she believes her son’s fatal shooting by George Zimmerman was an accident and that he should apologize if he's truly remorseful.
“I believe it was an accident, I believe that it just got out of control and he couldn’t turn the clock back," Sybrina Fulton told TODAY.
"I would ask him, 'Did he know that that was a minor, that that was a teenager and that he did not have a weapon?'” she added.
Special Prosecutor Angela Corey announced Wednesday at a news conference in Jacksonville, Fla., that Zimmerman would be charged with second-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. The announcement came 44 days after Martin was killed.

George Zimmerman in Custody After Gun IncidentGeorge Zimmerman is being questioned by police after a domestic incident today with his wife, Shellie, and her father, that involved a gun, according to police.
Zimmerman is being held at the home of a relative after the incident, which involved Shellie Zimmerman and her father Colin Morgan, police in Lake Mary, Fla., told ABC News.
"There was some kind of a domestic, we know that with his wife and father-in-law. Apparently there were some weapons involved and threats," the deputy police chief in Lake Mary told ABC News.
Zimmerman has not been charged with any crime.
Shellie Zimmerman recently announced plans to divorce her husband, who was acquitted in July on murder charges related to the 2012 death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
Her attorney told ABC News that Zimmerman pulled a knife on her today after she discovered a firearm in the house they shared. He then pulled a gun on her and her father after a verbal altercation went bad, according to attorney Kelly Sims.
George Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, did not immediately respond to request for comment.
This story is developing.
UPDATE: Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells us Shellie and her father have declined to press charges and George will NOT be arrested.
He said, "My understand is that she never saw his firearm and that is what she is now telling us. So George Zimmerman is free to go and will not be arrested at this time." Strange.
Damn @ the update. Thought we had him.

- George Zimmerman Arrested For Aggravated Assault With WeaponGeorge Zimmerman was arrested late Friday for aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon after allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend, Florida police and his lawyer said.
The 31-year-old was detained at 10 p.m in Lake Mary, near Orlando, his booking record shows. At a Saturday morning court appearance, Zimmerman was granted a $5,000 bond, which he posted. He was released from jail a short time after noon and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or travel to Volusia County, where she lives.
Zimmerman's attorney, Don West, said the woman is his girlfriend, and the incident involved him allegedly tossing a wine bottle at her earlier this week at his Lake Mary home. West said he did not want to "speculate" about the situation that led to the alleged assault, adding that Zimmerman "has not been lucky with the ladies."
He also must surrender any firearms he owns — even though the judge said there was no indication he used one in this case. He is expected to appear in court again Feb. 17. West said Zimmerman will plead not guilty. "Anyone who has been through what he has would have a rough time," West said.
Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida jury in 2013 of second-degree murder in connection with the killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.

- Professional Imbecile George Zimmerman Retweets Graphic Photo of Trayvon Martin's Dead BodyGeorge Zimmerman, actual thug and current Confederate flag struggle painter, has somehow managed to amass 11,000 (presumably stupid, racist, or both) followers on Twitter since somehow being acquitted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of unarmed black 17-year-old high school student Trayvon Martin.
However, Zimmerman's most recent act of Zimmerdouchery is most likely his most appalling contribution to society yet. Though the tweet has now been deleted by Twitter officials, Zimmerman reportedly retweeted the following proclamation that he is a "one man army," an incendiary statement maddeningly paired with a gruesome photo of Trayvon Martin's corpse.
Source Evil trash. I cannot wait to reap the harvest of his inescapable karma.

I looked up his Twitter to see if it was really a thing and Jesus, his Tweets are unreal.
If he had even half a brain he would've moved to the middle of nowhere and shut the fuck up until the day he died.
