I've just finished reading this: It wasn't great, but it was a nice casual read. My main problem with it was that The Joker didn't really change when he had The Mask on. I'm now reading this: Which isn't much better, but it was cheap, so I can't really complain.

Work breaks and living beside a park is great for reading. In the last week I've finished Rule of the Bone by Russell Banks and Gypsy Boy by Mikey Walsh.
Rule of the Bone was really good. Apparently it's a contemporary Huckleberry Finn but despite it being my dad's favourite book I've never actually read that so I wasn't aware of the parallels until I read reviews afterwards. I bought it based on comparisons to Catcher in the Rye though and it did live up to them (tho I still prefer Catcher). The last two pages were my favourites.
Gypsy Boy was great but frightening. If it really is a true story reflecting the author's life (albeit with artistic license I'm sure) then what a sad, hard life he had. I'd definitely advise people to read it. You come out of it with an appreciation for gypsy/Romani culture despite the personal experience of the narrator being so horrifying. I finished it in a day too, so it's a short read.

Over half way through Penmarric. It's really good, but Cashelmara was better. Ordering this on Amazon. I've had them all pretty much twice over in the past but they're all torn up from overuse and reading them in the bath:

Oh, and after years of my dad trying to sell them to me I finally tried a second hand book shop. I don't know WHY I never bothered before. So much stuff for so little money. The other day I bought a bunch of books for just over five pound.
Moll Flanders - Daniel Defoe Ultimate Prizes - Susan Howatch Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden Lark Rise to Candleford - Flora Thompson
Plus To Kill a Mockingbird and Brideshead Revisited 'cause I wanted better copies and they were cheap.

Lipstick Traces - Greil Marcus I Never Liked You - Chester Brown Humanism: A Beginner's Guide - Peter Cave
Lipstick Traces is really interesting so far. Chester Brown is hit or miss for me, but I'm loving this one. As for Peter Cave, I think if I would have read this and pretty much any of his other books while still a teenager I would have been in love with him. It's still worth the read.
I gave into the hype and attempted 50 Shades of Grey. It's pretty awful. The writer is terrible, the editing is non-existent, and for all the hype it's getting as a BDSM novel it's extremely tame and actually quite dull. The characters are not even likeable. I didn't finish it, but unless the rest of the book and series was ghostwritten by someone with talent I didn't miss anything.

It looks like DC Thomson are about to pull the plug on The Dandy. It's a shame that Britain's longest running comic book is close to it's demise, because it could be really good again.
They shouldn't just throw away all their hard work without trying to revive it one last time. Desperate Dan could really benefit from a gritty reboot tbh.

I have a friend that I swap books with if either of us find a book with a cover that is either weird or amusing the other ends up getting it. I got this in the mail last week: It's actually really funny. I can't be bothered to cast the whole thing, but Praline would totally be Fizzle. "Always repay favor with a favor. Jason had saved his life and now it was time to repay him with sex."

The new Captain Underpants book is amazing. The ending is actually really surprisingly dark, I would be really happy with the series ending there. The last book in the series is out in January, and I'm already looking forward to it.

Got the follow up to that Gypsy Boy book and finished it in a day and a bit. It's probably my last non-course book for a while so I'm glad it was so great to read. The first one was about growing up with an abusive father and uncle and having to live knowing that he'd never fit in with the Romani way of life whereas this one was about adapting to the world outside after escaping (although naturally his family, culture and background are still the focus).
It's autobiographical so it makes you feel rather hopeful to know that a real person in the real world (though with a very unique story) can maintain such a pure and forgiving stance on things.

I read Jurassic Park and The Lost World a few days ago because I was bored and wanted to compare notes to the movies. Jurassic Park was cool. It was similar to the movie, but different enough to keep it fresh. The movie was better though. The way Hammond eats shit was worth the read, tbh. The Lost World was extremely different from the movie though, and honestly, kind of boring until about the last 150 pages or so. Malcolm's lectures were way too long winded, and a clear ploy to flesh out the slow parts, but they could be thought provoking at times. I'd like to read something rally gay that isn't porn, if you guys have any suggestions.
