Maryse Oulette was released Friday by WWE. At one point she had been scheduled to return following a recent hernia surgery. While her release was surprising to some, one of Maryse' closer friends told us this news wasn't a shocker to them as she had tired of the spotlight and was enjoying her extended time off. They also noted her issues with a stalker earlier this year who had threatened her life. She wrote on Twitter regarding her release, "I'm happy, I'm smiling, I'm free," adding she was going to bake a cake and throw a release party in Hollywood. Maryse, 28, a glamour model from Montreal who grew up in New Brunswick, was hired by WWE in 2006 after participating in the fourth Diva Search competition, a competition that led to several other hires including; Layla El, Milena Roucka (Rosa Mendes), Brooke Adams and the Garcia (Bella) twins. She was shortlisted from hundreds of girls and placed 7th overall, was then offered a developmental deal, initially training with OVW in Louisville, and later with FCW in Tampa, where she spent much of her time learning English. One insider who worked in developmental around that time said: "(Maryse) was always a class act with me. Loved her look, I thought she was too hot and too small for WWE... boy did she prove me wrong. I did not think she would last 6 weeks. I am very glad I was wrong about her." Vince McMahon also loved her look and less than two years in was Divas champion on Smackdown before a knee injury derailed her push. She was drafted to Raw in 2009 after Wrestlemania and feuded briefly for the title with Mickie James before undergoing surgery. She returned the following year and was pushed once again as champion before dropping the belt to Eve Torres. She was then paired with Ted DiBiase in a non-wrestling role that didn't really work out, and eventually went on to become co-host of NXT with Matt Striker. She stayed on that show and did romantic storylines with Yoshi Tatsu, Lucky Cannon and Hornswoggle. She underwent surgery for an abdominal hernia on 8/24 but was never brought back. She's currently dating Mike Mizanin and the couple have been talking about settling down together. As far as the future, she's already planning a return to modeling, and has her sights set on Playboy.
It pisses me off when all these reporters keep spelling Ouellet wrong. Anyway, that sucks if that stalker incident was indeed a key reason in her wanting out. |

I can totally see her making a Sable like comeback only better. I really doubt we've seen the last of Maryse Ouellet in the WWE. Once she gets the itch to return, she will, and they'll gladly have her back. And then she can be a 3x BotY.

As we noted last Friday here on the website, WWE decided to release Maryse. This came as a surprise to many people backstage as well as online fans.
WWE sources still indicate that the decision for the two sides to part ways was mutual to some degree. Maryse had recently been looking beyond WWE as she was talking with several modeling companies and was even thinking about posing for Playboy. Obviously, that would not go over well with WWE's new "PG" environment and WWE officials made the call to cut ties with her. WWE doesn't have any issues with her going to TNA so there wasn't much debating on whether to release her or not.
It should be noted that there were plans in place to begin a storyline with her and Hornswoggle where Horny would have a crush on her. That was before she suffered an abdominal hernia injury and underwent surgery. Maryse had just been cleared to return and was telling friends she was about to return to TV.
For those wondering, she is still dating The Miz. The two currently reside in Southern California.
