I watched The Force Awakens and actually liked it. I'm not a Star Wars fan at all so I have no emotional connection to the old characters/movies but even I found it sad when Han Solo died.

So my mind was just blown by someone saying Jedi is plural
This changes everything about the new title. I'm so happy.

This is amazing:
They had a tribute for her at Star Wars celebration. Mark Hamill gave a nice speech that ended with, "When I think of her she’s looking down from the celestial stratosphere with those big brown eyes, that sly smile on her face as she lovingly extends me the middle finger." And Billie Lourd came out in a Princess Leia inspired dress and delivered the "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi" monologue.
Her brother had said last week that she would be appearing in Episode 9 via old footage and CGI, but the producer corrected him and say she won't be in Episode 9 at all as they did rewrites in January after her death. But her story supposedly is wrapped up nicely in 8. Which I find odd considering they also said she was supposed to have the largest role in 9 out of the entire trilogy. I still say let Billie's character be Han & Leia's secret daughter who only Leia knew about and fill in for her.

Although it wasn't as good as Force Awakens, and there were definitely some messy parts, I loved it. Got that Rogue One taste out of my mouth. First off, spoiler-free opinions: Carrie Fisher was much better this go around. Shook off some of that ring rust she had in 7. I'm heartbroken she won't be in Episode IX, at least, not in the way she was in 7 and 8. I loved that Billie Lourd was given a bigger role and got to act alongside her mama in almost every scene she was in. It's funny how people were joking this was going to be a remake of 5, since 7 seemed like a remake of 4, but lol, they were wrong. It was a remake of 5 AND 6 lol. Some of it was shameless. Here's to seeing how 9 goes now that they don't have any more of the classics to remake. Some of the comedy was cringy and misplaced and I wish the jokes had been left on the cutting room floor. Although I loved Finn in part 7, he was pretty useless here, and his side story with the new girl was the weakest part of the film. I loved Benicio Del Toro tho. I didn't even know he was in this. Laura Dern was also a welcome addition, even if she did look like she just walked off the set of The Hunger Games. More on her in the spoiler tag. The porgs were everything I wanted them to be and more. BB-8 is still bae. Also, more Poe makes a happy me. Spoiler time, for real, the first thing I say is major so don't open if you care: Killing Snoke was totally unexpected. Kylo's fake-out face turn was great tho. Also, wtf. Are we never going to know who Snoke was now? Who was this dude who was manipulating the dark side of the force while Luke was training Jedi? I'm gonna need some splainin' in 9. Also, wtf with Rey's parents? Kylo has to be lying. There's no way they would just throw away the 2 biggest mysteries from part 7 like that. But the little kid having the force at the end makes me think they're really going for that great jedi can come from nothing thing. I'm mixed on it. I was also mixed on Super Leia in space. One, because that was a perfect and oddly beautiful death for her. It was a staredown with Kylo, just like Han, but he chooses the other path with her, only for two tie fighters to blow her up out of nowhere. It was edge of seat and unexpected. Then the shot of her floating in space with her theme playing was beautiful and somber. But then, lol... Some people in my theater cheered, some laughed. It was so jump the shark for me in the moment, but then someone said she used force pull and there being no gravity pulled her to the ship, instead of her flying through space. That makes it a little easier to swallow, and I'm all for Leia having the force. But then she just survives the movie, so my worst fears were realized. They didn't even write her off, so now they're going to have to do it off screen in part 9. One of the most important and iconic characters in the entire series, hell, in film, being written off off-screen. Terrible. That would've been a great, unexpected ending for her. She wasn't even needed in the 3rd act. Laura Dern filled her spot perfectly. They just wanted that scene with her and Luke. Speaking of Laura Dern, I really did like her character, and how you didn't know who's side she was on until the very end, but looking back she was really stupid not to include Poe in on the plan and save that whole mutiny hassle. Her kamikaze suicide destroying the First Order fleet by hyperspacing into them was great. Phasma is this series' Boba Fett. Overrated as hell, and went out like a bitch. Brienne deserved a better character. Mother fuckin YODA bitches. I marked out, ngl. I love that they chose him instead of Anakin or Obi-Wan, and I LOVED that it was the original puppet from the OT, and he was acting like a crazy old kook like he did in part 5. Great scene, and it was the first scene Luke actually felt like Luke again. And finally, speaking of Luke, dusting the dirt off his shoulder was a bit much, but that was a great fake out. He got the beautiful ending Leia deserved, and I bet they're regretting killing Luke off instead of Leia now. Seriously, they had an entire year to do rewrites and reshoots, but they just left Leia open ended, smh. RIP Admiral Ackbar But yeah, overall I loved it. Great addition to the series, tho not as well done as Force Awakens. I really missed Han. And Chewie, R2 and 3PO were barely in it, which made me sad.

I actually thought the opposite; that it tried to distance itself from the original trilogy by eliminating a lot of the tropes that were reused in the Force Awakens from the original trilogy. But I definitely agree Finn and Rose were the worst part of the movie. It felt like they were just trying to give him something to do (THAT THEY FAILED AT AND POTENTIALLY COSTED MORE LIVES). Honestly it would've almost been better if they'd let him sacrifice himself when they were on that Ice/Rust planet. But I feel like they could've definitely written something better for him. Same for the humor too. A lot of it made me cringe and I really could do without C-3P0 at this point.
The end with Luke vs Kylo was cool though. I loved that it was all a mind trick to help the others escape. And apparently a lot of the scenes were inspired from the books (which my brother won't shut up about), but that's how Luke ends up fighting Han and Leia's son in the book. Not that it means anything important. Oh speaking of Luke though, him trying to kill Kylo because he sensed a darkness in him I thought was absolute crap. I'm sorry, but that isn't the Luke Skywalker from the original trilogy. I hated that part, completely out of character.
The scene with Leia in space I thought was awesome. I think it was just a way to remind us that she's first and foremost a Skywalker and that the force has always been with her. As for Carrie being written off, I thought it was already confirmed that despite her passing they were still gonna have her in the next film. After seeing Rogue One though, I see why people would be against it. Anyways Leia was great and I agree with what you said about Purple hair lady. Her going into hyperspeed was fucking awesome.
The throne room scene with Kylo and Rey was fucking awesome. Hands down the best part of the movie for me. As for Rey's parents I was disappointed with that, but at the same time I think it's a better decision in the long run. They seemingly got rid of any rules as far as who can be a jedi and who can't (w/ that little kid in the barn having a connection with the force). But I liked that this girl who was traded off for money in the middle of nowhere became such a strong wielder of the force. It's cool that our main character has nothing to do with the Skywalker family drama, which I think makes it easier to show that Jedis and the Force don't always revolve around being Luke/Leia/Anakin. Even though I secretly wanted her to be a descendant to Qui-Gon.
As for Snoke, I'm bummed that he wasn't someone we knew from the past, but again I'm with it at the same time. It's what I wanted Vader to do to Palpitine. But they eliminated that Palpitine/Vader comparison by having Kylo kill Snoke and it was such a cool and unpredictable thing to happen. That's what I liked about the movie in general is that it made decisions you weren't expecting. I think this helps distance itself from the original trilogy and what's what it needs.
Despite all that though, I still liked the last movie better, but this was still a fun watch. And I'm intrigued to see if anything comes out of Poe and Rey meeting. Poe really was one of the highlights for me too. Honesty I'm tired and my thoughts are pretty scattered, but overall I had fun with it.

So over the weekend I sat down to watch the prequels in their entirety, because that's the kind of punishment I like to put upon myself.
First of all, The Phantom Menace is still fucking dumb as shit. I don't know why I enjoyed this movie as a kid, but any love I had for it has completely gone out of the window.
Having said that, it's still better than the borefest that is Attack of the Clones. This movie is without a doubt the worst out of all the Star Wars movies (not counting the Holiday Special and those Ewok movies). I never watched this one as a kid, and I've only caught bits of it when it was on TV, but I always assumed it was better than The Phantom Menace. Nope.
Now, where the fuck has Revenge of the Sith been all my life? I watched the opening scene as a kid, but that's all I had scene of it besides the climatic battle, but this was the first time I've watched it all the way through. Okay, so there were so inconsistencies and the CGI was crap, but man, this was the absolute best of the bunch! If the prequels were all on Revenge of the Sith's level, we wouldn't view them with as much negativity.
I need that Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan spin-off movie now.

I don't remember too much about the first two other than Padme's outfits. But I loved the 3rd one. Order 66 is one of the most (iconic) tragic scenes and Padme's funeral too. I'd been thinking about re-watching them to see if they aged well, but I don't have the patience to sit down and watch movies for whatever reason.
