I hope Japan get knocked out due to a controversial refereeing decision then Pikachu and the gang jump the ref after the match.
That might replace this as my all time favourite mascot moment:

Step aside Pikachu/Japan, now Rey Mysterio is like the unofficial mascot for Mexico this summer.

I just booked my theme park tickets for Universal and Disney this summer and the company I booked them through is doing a special promotion where if England win the World Cup and Wayne Rooney is the tournaments top goalscorer then they'll refund me the price of my tickets (and this shit isn't cheap).
I'm praying so hard for England/Rooney right now.

It's time for another psychic animal to predict World Cup results. When it comes to famous psychic animals, as the old saying goes, Paul the Octopus was in a league of his own, predicting many of the winners of soccer matches at the 2008 European Championship and 2010 World Cup.
That World Cup made Paul easily the most recognizable octopus on the planet, but he didn’t have much chance to bask in the glory – he died a couple of months after the tournament from an octopus-related illness, otherwise known as a very short lifespan.
His success inspired many copycats, though not many of them were actually cats. At the 2012 European Championship, an Indian elephant named Citta tried to pick up where Paul left off, but her faulty predictions meant she had a tournament to forget, though of course, being an elephant, she couldn’t.
Now, with the World Cup in Brazil less than a week away, a panda is being lined up as a possible heir to Paul’s psychic crown. Chinese state media reported that the giant panda conservation center in the southwestern province of Sichuan has “invited” a panda cub to predict the results of matches in the 2014 tournament.
It is unclear if the panda has responded to the invitation, but reports suggest the cub will predict the outcome of matches either by picking food marked with a certain national flag or by climbing a tree flying a flag. It is a similar technique used by both Paul and Citta.
Paul would pick food from boxes marked with flags, while Citta used her trunk to pick a melon placed above a national flag. Paul was a fine psychic and a patriot. From his tank in Oberhausen in western Germany, he predicted German victories in Euro 2008, while he stuck with his team for much of the 2010 World Cup before objectivity took over and he plumped for Spain to beat Germany in the semifinal. He was correct and his 100% World Cup record was maintained through the final, which he rightly said Spain would win.
Then he died.
Paul the Octopus correctly predicts Spain as the winner of the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands, July 9, 2010.
Citta was less of a success. After being chosen as the Euro 2012 oracle ahead of other animals, including a donkey named Mary, she unwaveringly backed Poland to win matches in the group stage. Citta was a resident of Krakow Zoo and, like Paul, she was fond of her adoptive nation, which was co-hosting the tournament with Ukraine. But Poland isn’t as good as soccer as Germany and it finished bottom of its group without a win.
Citta’s record improved later in the tournament but by then the damage to her reputation had been done – it was clear that this elephant was no psychic octopus.
As China isn’t in the World Cup, the chosen panda in Chengdu is in a position to take a more pragmatic approach, unswayed by the partisan demands of a local crowd. There is some pressure though: if the panda’s predictions do prove accurate, the animal might be the first of its sleepy, reproduction-averse kind to do anything useful. The panda is also likely to face competition from Brazil, as zoos and wildlife parks in the host nation will be eager to push forward psychic animals of their own. An anaconda swallowing a soccer ball perhaps?
Cynics could argue that the Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding’s psychic panda plan is a publicity stunt. After all, Paul’s success led to a surge in visitors to his aquarium, and even Citta became an attraction in Krakow. But as mentioned once before, there is no place for cynics in a story about psychic animals.
