Any thoughts on this weeks games or early look aheads to the Super Bowl?
I think Pittsburgh's Defense might outscore Denver's Offense this week. Obviously, the visiting Steelers should win that game.
Houston has been playing poorly lately and Cincinnati can't beat a good team. Fortunately for them, the Texans don't really qualify there anymore so I will take the Andy Dalton and the road Bengals.
Atlanta wasn't as good in the regular season this year as last. And New York/Jersey is getting it's act together when it counts. That Giants D front line and playing outdoors in the weather looks like a fairly tall order for the Falcons too. So I am taking......... the Falcons on the road. I'm not sold on any team from the NFC East in '11-'12. Beating the Jets and Cowboys the last two weeks doesn't mean so much to me since both teams have a habit of self destruction.
New Orleans vs Detroit should be an entertaining game to watch. Like both #1 seeds, the Saints defense isn't too good on paper. But neither is the Lions dee. If Detroit can't keep Matt Flynn from putting up 45 points, I have no idea how high Drew Brees can go. I think the Lions have a good future as a contender but the Saints look like too much this week.
++++
Longterm, while the Packers defense gives up a lot of yards, it does create quite a few turnovers. I see that, combined with that great offense being enough to repeat. With the Ravens being the last victim, in the Superbowl. I don't think the Patriots quite make it this year. Their defense is arguably the worst in the league and that is against a fairly soft schedule.
Of the teams playing this weekend, New Orleans and Pittsburgh are clearly the biggest threats. The Saints defense is playing better than the Pack's is too lately. So who knows if it comes down to that matchup. Though GB would have the benefit of playing outdoors against a dome team.
